A Day in Your Life at MKS:As a Senior Optical Engineer at Spectra-Physics, Lasers Business Unit of MKS Instruments, you will partner with Multi-disciplinary Internal Teams to contribute to the development of platform extensions and improvement of optical designs of free-space and fiber-based laser systems. In this role, you will report to the Senior Engineering Manager, R&D.You Will Make an Impact By: + Design and engineer laser modules and systems for performance, cost, and reliability to solve our customers most pressing challenges. + Define experimentation and modeling strategies, build, test and troubleshoot laser systems, create reports and design documentation, and transfer designs to production. + Interact with Electrical, Mechanical, Software and Manufacturing Engineers to drive design activities, performance and reliability evaluation, and systematic problem-solving. • Travel Requirements: Up to 10% of Travel may be required.Skills You Bring: + Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree + 5 years of industry experience + Experience designing and building optical systems and free-space beam alignment of laser oscillators or amplifiers + Ability to set up and perform optical measurements, evaluate the results, and clearly communicate the conclusions Preferred Skills: (Optional) + Industrial optical product development + Troubleshooting and failure analysis of optical modules and systems + Hand on experience with ultra-fast lasers and techniques + Gaussian beam propagation and ray-tracing software + Harmonic generation and nonlinear crystals + Fiber lasers and components We are interested in a qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. Compensation and Benefits: Salary Pay Range: $120,000 to 170,000 per year. This range is a good faith esti mate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law.  At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role. Bonus: This position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, in an amount to be determined by MKS [or as applicable].
