Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use. **Role Purpose** Provides subject matter expertise in engineering that improves product, process and/or equipment performance (cost, quality and service) and/or advances the innovation process to enable the delivery of new products. Provides solutions for increased process selects, increased material utilization, decreased costs, and improvement to product quality by planning, organizing and implementing projects. Is a leader in obtaining fundamental process understanding and meeting the lowest cost producer objectives Designs and analyses first generation / next generation products, processes and/or equipment in support of a new product / technology introduction. Maintains knowledge of the latest developments in their area of expertise in order to identify and document any intellectual property developed as part of a project **Key Responsibilities** + Understand the total cost of packaging, including but not limited to materials, manufacturing, distribution, transportation, and sustainability. + Provide technical expertise for packaging materials, design and interface with manufacturing, technology, quality, logistics, and commercial functional groups + Provide project management/ leadership and align within scope of the Pkg Program and OCS objectives on identified pkg projects to lead, establish project plans, risks with active updates and mitigation plans + Identify and execute packaging improvement opportunities to deliver cost, quality, and capability improvements for new and existing products + Define and develop new package materials/ technologies/ designs for the implementation of innovative and cost-effective packaging solutions (corrugate, recyclable plastic, paper based materials) + Qualify new package designs/ materials and ensure product reliability + Generate appropriate technical documentation to support packaging design, testing validations and process changes within the manufacturing sites + Interface with packaging material solution vendors to identify, develop and validate potential packaging solutions + Share best practices, collaborate and mentor other packaging engineers within and across global regions + Demonstrate pkg capabilities with all team members including the manufacturing sites/ eng/ purchasing/ sourcing team members. Networking in all Reynosa sites to effectively implement pkg projects and meet project deliverables + Provide technical guidance to other packaging team members + Provide technical expertise to support manufacturing packaging issues or customer quality related issues to packaging **Experiences/Education - Required** + Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering from accredited university program preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering of a comparable discipline acceptable + Minimum 5 years of experience in packaging engineering roles + Demonstrated knowledge of packaging processes, designs, and materials + Project management skills + Demonstrated proficiency with supporting cross functional projects + Strong problem-solving skills + Ability to analyze and use historical and experimental data to determine optimum solutions + Knowledge of green/environmental concepts including packaging materials recycling + Advanced English verbal and written skills + Advanced MS Office proficiency + Strong team skills, able to interact well with others **Desired & Soft Skills** + SAP proficiency + Packaging design software proficiency + Packaging automation expertise + Spanish verbal and written skills + Project Management + Self-motivated, strong initiative + Ability to work independently with minimal guidance + Strong project management and leadership skills + Strong written and verbal communication skills + Strong technical curiosity **Travel Requirements** + International travel – 10% or less **Corning Puts YOU First!** We are committed to supporting your health, financial, career development, and life goals as you grow professionally and personally to achieve your highest potential.
