Sr. Payroll Coordinator

About the Location Hybrid Position: This position may be considered Hybrid based on PetSmart’s FlexSmart policy and business needs. A Hybrid work arrangement is considered to be a blend of onsite and remote work activity. Associates with a Hybrid work arrangement have a work space at Phoenix Home Office and can be required to come onsite between 1-5 days a week as determined by leadership and based on business needs. About the Job The Senior Payroll Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating payroll processes to ensure accurate and timely payroll for all employees. This role involves managing complex payroll functions and processes, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and provincial regulations. The Senior Payroll Coordinator works closely with HR, Finance, Field Leadership, and an external vendor to resolve payroll issues, manage reporting, and improve payroll operations. KEY COMPETENCIES attributed to driving service include, but are not limited to the following: Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with the highest level of confidentiality and integrity High attention to detail Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communications skills Ability to work in a multi-tasked environment as an individual contributor within a remote team and a team fostered environment Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and organize a high-volume workload with an appropriate sense of urgency and essential time management skills Ability to adapt to a flexible schedule Ability to use independent thought, critical thinking, and analytical skills to make sound decisions and solve problems SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES There are no supervisory responsibilities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to: Perform more complex and high impact payroll processes in the execution of high volume, multi-state and multi-provincial, weekly and bi-weekly payrolls for U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico Solve day-to-day operational problems of varied scope and complexity Create and execute ad-hoc reporting and audits in the HCM system including the bi-weekly audit of Executive pay results Perform salary proration and reclassification of salary wages Process final wages and off-cycle payments for U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico in accordance with company policies, local, state, federal, and provincial rules and regulations Calculate and process historical time edits in the HCM system Execute ACH return files including corrections to bank accounts, bank exceptions, and the issuance of replacement checks Maintain knowledge of functional area, company policies and procedures, and payroll related local, state, federal, and provincial laws, and regulations Participate in and contribute to assigned Payroll/HR projects as needed including user acceptance and regression testing EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Associate Degree as well as 4-6 years working in a high-volume payroll customer facing role using SAP HCM is preferred. Experience in multi-state U.S. payroll, and multi-provincial Canadian and Puerto Rico payroll is required. TECHNICAL SKILLS SAP HCM/Payroll system knowledge to complete various transactional requests Exceptional Excel skills and high proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications as well as Adobe Acrobat, ADP Smart Compliance platform, and other commonly used applications Kronos Timekeeping Critical thinking and problem solving Strong math skills with the ability to understand and perform complex calculations CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS None required. CPP, FPC, PCP (Canadian Payroll Compliance Practitioner) is preferred.
