Northrop Grumman Tactical Space Systems is seeking a Software Systems Test Engineer with a Systems Engineering mindset. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO and will support Tactical Space Systems Division in their development and deployment of satellite ground software to customer resources. This role requires strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical topics to management and non-technical audiences. After hours or extended work week may be required.

What you’ll get to do:

Collaborate with development team to understand and assess software changes and related testing required to provide new or modified capabilities for operational usersDevelop testing strategy for user stories, features, and capabilities that define new and modified capabilities.Develop and document step-by-step test cases based on the software requirements elicited by mission owners and software developers to verify the software is compliant with the requirements captured in the user stories, features, and capabilities.Test the software in the actual or simulated environment that it was designed for with users of the system in realistic operational conditions.As part of testing, evaluate the operational readiness of a software application prior to the release or production, ensuring system compliance with external interfaces in a common operating environment.End-to-end System Integration and TestingIdentify, log, and track defects discovered during testing.Interface with product developers and customer SMEsWork with the team to ensure defects are corrected and the software works as expected.Assist in the creation of test project status reports and metrics to provide weekly and/or monthly status to the management team.Ensure proper version control and configuration management of all test objects developed and test environments used.

Position can be filled at a Principal or Sr. Principal level.

Basic Qualifications

Principal Engineer

Bachelors in Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related discipline and 5+ years of relevant work experience with large, complex communication/satellite systems and/or ground software system testing (or 3 Years with Master’s Degree or 0 years with a PhD). Experience can be considered in lieu of degreeExperience writing operational test plans and test cases.Experience with full systems development lifecycle for software maintenance, development, and/or implementation projectsExperience in an Agile environment ensuring full functional testing of new features being added every sprint, with a focus on operational impact and assessment.Demonstrated experience in technical problem solving, to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation, and monitoring.Expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining automated test frameworks to ensure software quality and efficiency.US citizenship

Sr. Principal Engineer

Bachelors in Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related discipline and 9+ years of relevant work experience with large, complex communication/satellite systems and/or ground software system testing (or 7 Years with Master’s Degree or 4 years with a PhD). Experience can be considered in lieu of degreeExperience writing operational test plans and test cases.Experience with full systems development lifecycle for software maintenance, development, and/or implementation projectsExperience in an Agile environment ensuring full functional testing of new features being added every sprint, with a focus on operational impact and assessment.Demonstrated experience in technical problem solving, to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation, and monitoring.Expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining automated test frameworks to ensure software quality and efficiency.US citizenship

Salary Range: $91,200.00 - $136,800.00Salary Range 2: $113,500.00 - $170,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
