Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL.

The Engineer will be assigned work in the Product Support organization performing System Reliability & Maintainability (R&M) Engineering Analysis. Candidate will be responsible for establishing, monitoring, and verifying subsystem R&M performance requirements for all design changes and new development efforts to ensure that R&M program requirements are achieved. The primary responsibility of the position will be reliability, maintainability, and testability. 

Essential Functions:

Perform R&M allocations and predictions

Develop Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) analysis

Perform Built In Test (BIT) testability analysis

Develop mission reliability analysis

Support the development of teams in the investigation of issues

Familiarity with Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)

Experience with Failure Reporting Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS)

Experience with maintainability demonstrations

Experience with Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT), Reliability Growth Testing (RGT), and Environmental Stress Screening (ESS)

Liaison with Integrated Product Teams (IPT) and suppliers for the R&M of assigned subsystems

The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels.  Candidate must be able to collaborate closely with system engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test engineers. The engineer may develop, coordinate and conduct technical reliability studies and evaluations of engineering design concepts and design of experiments (DOE) constructs. Recommend design or test methods and statistical process control procedures for achieving required levels of product reliability. Compile and analyze performance reports and process control statistics; investigate and analyze relevant variables potentially affecting product and processes. Ensure that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards. Analyze preliminary plans and develop reliability engineering programs to achieve company, customer and governmental agency reliability objectives. May develop mathematical models to identify units, batches or processes posing excessive failure risks. As necessary, propose changes in design or formulation to improve system and/or process reliability. May determine units and/or batches requiring environmental testing and specify minimum number of samples to obtain statistically valid data.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of engineering experience OR Master’s Degree in STEM and 7 years of engineering experience OR PhD with 4 years of engineering experience.

Experience in Reliability and Maintainability discipline

An active in-scope DoD Secret or Top-Secret clearance with investigation within the last 5 years.

The ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR).
 

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Electrical Engineering or similar Engineering Degree.

Minimum 5 years of experience within Reliability and Maintainability discipline.

Knowledge of LO coating failure tracking and repair.

Excellent 2-way communication skills (upward and downward).

Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.

Active, In scope DoD Top Secret or SCI clearance.

Salary Range: $114,900.00 - $172,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
