Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Purpose of the Position:
Prioritize process and business needs and align Division Engineering activities and resources to deliver the business needs. Lead and support continuous process improvement activities, problem-solving sessions, new product or process receivership, cost reduction projects, and equipment installs and debug. Lead discussion on mechanistic understanding of complex engineering challenges and provide guidance on the application of Engineering First Principles. Cooperate and corroborate with other plants within the division for Best Practices and synergy opportunities. Improve existing manufacturing processes, equipment, and capabilities working with members from cross-functional teams. Solve process issues through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter experts.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Provide engineering-level production support to manufacturing operation and actively engage in plant safety initiatives and projects. Solve process issues through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter experts. Provide engineering expertise for fundamental understanding of manufacturing issues. Lead and/or provide support for projects involving cost reduction, process optimization, and new products. Develop and maintain systems to monitor and proactively address equipment/process performance, including trend analysis and implementation plans. Receive and integrate new technologies to improve process capability while ensuring proper processes are followed during transfer.
Travel Requirements:
Up to 25% to various manufacturing sites in the division (Domestic).
Hours of work/work schedule/flextime:
8-10 hours/day; 40-50 hours/week.
Required Education:
BS or MS in the following Engineering Disciplines: Mechanical, Materials, Chemical, Electrical or Polymer Engineering.
Required Years and Area of Experience:
5+ years' experience in Manufacturing Environment.
Required Skills:
Ability to multitask and prioritize work on an independent basis in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Ability to work effectively on all levels of an organization. Use scientific method and engineering principles to solve problems thoroughly and effectively, using well-designed and executed processes. Strong data analysis and statistical skills. Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Minitab, or equivalent. Determine and recommend best solution from a series of alternatives within plant and safety guidelines. Strong communication and presentation skills. Ability to lead a team of engineers to achieve business goals.
Desired Skills:
Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt certification. Knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting. Project management experience.
Soft Skills:
Work well both within a multi-disciplined team, and independently with minimal oversight. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Personal initiative and commitment. Organized with good planning and time management skills. The range for this position is $91,633.00 - $125,996.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
