Job Summary

As part of the Sales & Market Growth pillar of the Specialty Health organization, the Sr. Proposal Writer plays a pivotal role in guiding the sales team and other key stakeholders through the strategy and completion of moderate to complex, high-value proposals for new and existing customers. This role focuses on the successful development of compliant, competitive, and compelling proposals through effective collaboration with internal staff, corporate partners, consultants, and supporting vendors.

The successful candidate will be responsible for working closely with our sales and business development teams to design winning proposals that secure new business opportunities within the healthcare sector and related fields. In addition to Request for Proposal (RFP) responses, the writer will also handle grants, both solicited and unsolicited bids, and other technical writing needs.

Specific Responsibilities

Assemble and lead proposal development teams consisting of sales team members, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders, including individuals from various McKesson business units or partners, to ensure the successful completion and delivery of proposal responses.Provide strategic guidance to the Sales team and other stakeholders on bid objectives and recommend the best approaches. Recognize potentially problematic requests and escalate them to appropriate business partners to ensure all business decisions are fully vetted.In collaboration with the proposal development team and with direction from the Account Lead, write proposals that are proactive, bespoke, and strategic, and which reflect an appreciation for the patient’s experience and disease area. Recognize the customer’s needs and bring a critical lens to proposal writing and solutioning through an understanding of the product’s commercialization journey.Create detailed project plans, involve cross-functional contributors, anticipate and resolve timeline challenges, and ensure clear communication of tasks and internal deadlines for efficient engagement of resources and timely completion of responses.Identify and execute opportunities to enhance proposal quality, processes, and overall effectiveness.Maintain an RFP content database and reporting metrics to ensure accuracy and accessibility of information.Identify client priorities and win themes to tailor proposals for maximum impact.Ensure all RFP presentations and submissions comply with stated guidelines, including securing appropriate signatures and approvals.Develop and maintain a comprehensive library of RFPs, standard language, and exhibits. Maintain a Smartsheet Content Repository for all supporting documentation, including legal, SME, and sales approvals.Implement quality control processes for documentation and ensure that all documents requiring signature and approval are processed using the documented process.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Marketing, Business, Communications, or English.7+ years of experience interpreting and analyzing complex RFX documents, including Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Information (RFIs), and Requests for Qualifications (RFQs), and in structuring and editing content to meet client requirements.

Key Competencies

Pharmaceutical industry or other healthcare-related experience is a strong asset – specifically including roles in market access, patient support programs, project management, consulting or business development.Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with outstanding abilities in writing, editing, and document organization.Strong ability to collaborate with practitioners from diverse backgrounds, effectively communicate with executive leadership, lead teams in strategic discussions, and influence stakeholders.Outstanding follow-up skills, with the adaptability to read situations and adjust leadership style to achieve results, both in person and remotely.Superior organizational skills, with the capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously within a fast-paced sales environment.Advanced proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint, with strong document management skills and the ability to coordinate with team members to produce compelling, high-quality proposals.Proven track record of managing projects with precision, including the development of comprehensive project plans and the adept resolution of timeline challenges.Strategic thinker with meticulous attention to detail and a proven capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with efficiency.Strong time management skills, enabling the organization and prioritization of work to meet the evolving needs of the organization.Proficient in gathering business requirements, comprehending complex business and legal concepts, identifying and resolving issues, and devising alternative solutions.Strong Team Player, skilled at influencing stakeholders, securing commitment, and fostering positive working relationships with business partners, customers, and third-party entities.Demonstrates the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, ranging from intermediate to expert levels.

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$86,600 - $144,300
