**Description:**
* Performs laboratory operations, maintains regulatory compliance, oversees and trains Lab Technicians and Chemists, and completes special projects. Supports any reports and record keeping needed to validate the results or maintain Fuels Compliance.
* Follows and enforces all safety rules and guidelines as established by the Refinery.
* Participates in Lab shutdowns and startups as needed.
* Daily Review of ESL logs and Out of Service Instruments.
* Responsible for review and archival of finished gasoline batch paperwork by following the SOP guidelines.
* Maintains a current equipment inventory log.
* Develops, documents, and ensures appropriate implementation of new methods. Responsible for creating and maintaining the SOPs related to the test methods within your area of expertise.
* Monitor off-spec data in LIMS associated with their responsible instrument.
* As an instrument SME, ensure that the equipment is operating at maximum capacity and monitor the performance via QC trends in LIMS and Perform periodic Inspection, cleaning, repair and maintenance.
* Maintains inventory of calibration equipment, standards, QC material and reference standard certificates of calibration or standardization.
* Calibrated and schedule PMs for designated laboratory equipment as per the method/vendor/company requirement. Maintaining calibration and PM records and schedule for every designated instrument.
* Responsible for coordinating with all the departments to schedule vendor visits and ensure everything is preplanned for vendor visit.
* Keep the instruments properly tagged for mechanical status and calibration status.
* Cross train support staff in their area of instrumental analysis.
* Assists personnel outside the department in the collection, evaluation, and distribution of Laboratory data. Aids with operations problem solving.
* Permit writing and perform weekly and quarterly rotational duties as mentioned in the SOP.
* All the duties mentioned above and extra duties assigned by lab manager.
* Perform ICP testing and train contracts on ICP testing procedures.
* Coordinates training the techs resulting from individual requests, changes in procedures or for refresher training.
* Maintain consumables inventory and lab supplies (SAP).
* Maintains documented calibration procedures.
* Coordinates performance and documentation of calibrations.
* Assists in regulatory compliance
* Attends meetings and corresponds with external or regulatory agencies concerning product testing methodology.
* Assists with online analyzers with regards to online certification and quality control procedures.
* Collects and interprets analytical data.
* Supports water lab testing that may include COD, oil and grease, ammonia, sulfide, suspended solids, volatile solids, COD and phosphate.
* Generates daily and monthly internal reports on wastewater and storm water test results.
* Generates monthly reports to be submitted to the TNRCC/EPA.
* Other duties as assigned (ordering of instrumentation, supplies, etc.)
This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.
**Qualifications:**
* Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Biology, Bio-Chemistry, Physics, or related field required.
* 5 years of directly related laboratory experience required.
* Experience in a petroleum lab is preferred.
* Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Memphis Refinery, required.
