The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Sr. Research Associate 3 to work at the UHealth Medical Campus in Miami, FL. CORE SUMMARY The Sr. Research Associate 3 conducts highly specialized and complex research in support of the division’s research goals and objectives and assumes responsibility for the successful operations of the laboratory. The incumbent also supervises the activities of all laboratory staff and users and serves as subject matter expert and mentor to less experienced staff. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES1. CORE QUALIFICATIONSEducation:Master’s Degree in relevant fieldExperience:Minimum 3 years of relevant experience knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:• Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.• Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.• Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions Department Specific Functions This individual will work in the Division of Transplant and Cell Therapy (TCT) Research Laboratory to support preclinical and translational research. In Green Lab, we study mechanisms of relapse and resistance to existing cellular therapy approaches, especially CAR T cells. The major goal of our lab is to generate preclinical data for clinical translation. Relevant experience in immunology, cell biology, molecular biology or a closely related field is highly required. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, coordinate the daily operations of the laboratory, provide training for staff, ensure laboratory is properly equipped and equipment is properly maintained, and all safety and compliance regulations are in place across the laboratory. Administrative duties include responsibility for maintaining reagent, chemical and supply; selection and ordering of supplies; create and maintain protocols for staff to follow, safety and compliance training and certification for all lab staff and appropriate record keeping. Oversee and ensure effective biospecimen collection, processing, and storage activities including ensuring point-to-point proper coordination of biospecimen collection and processing from time of blood draw to cryopreservation, including providing backup specimen processing. Other duties as assigned by the Director. Capable of conducting experiments on aseptic cell culture including working on isolation, characterization and assay set up with primary human and murine immune cells, tumor cell lines or primary patient-derived cells. Perform flow cytometry experiments including sample staining and data acquisition by flow cytometry for correlative studies of transplantation and cell therapy research. Works on production, maintenance and cryopreservation of CAR T cells, in vitro (co-culture assays) conducts genetic engineering techniques that includes PCR, cloning, gene editing of primary immune cells using state of art technologies like CRISPR/TALEN, viral transduction and library preparations. Works on immunological assays that includes multiplex assays ELISA, ELISPOT and Western blotting. Works with mouse models of cancer after appropriate training per institutional guidelines, tissue dissection, primary tissue culture. Assists in Phase I clinical trial related sample receipt, handling and documentation with appropriate training and under supervision. Records and summarizes research data generated from experiments, prepare figures and analyze for presentation and publications. Experience in using Prism, Flow Jo, Microsoft Office is important. Technical training will be provided, and the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate new skills if necessary. Department Specific Qualifications Experience: Experience in flow cytometry, immune cell processing, and immune assays required. 5+ years' experience working in an immunology-based research environment preferred. Qualified individuals without advanced degrees are also encouraged to apply as relevant experience is most critical (position may be downgraded to allow those with appropriate experience to be hired).
