**Responsibilities**
The American Heart Association seeks a skilled, collaborative, and driven Impact Manager to join our Social Impact Fund team. The role will guide, implement, and optimize the Fund’s overarching measurement, evaluation, and learning approaches. This position will be responsible for quantifying the impact and value of the portfolio companies, the work of the Fund itself, analyzing trends, and identifying emerging opportunities to amplify and communicate impact.
This updated position will report to the Managing Director of the Social Impact Fund. In this role, you will develop the vision for learning and impact at a systems level, refine existing Impact Frameworks, and support general grant and impact reporting for relevant business partners. Work across the social drivers of health and focuses impact across three core areas: healthcare access and quality, food security, and economic empowerment. Each pillar would require an impact framework tracking outcomes that speak to broader health equity goals. The manager/director will lead data collection, data analysis and identify key trends on portfolio company performance. Learnings and impact across the portfolio will directly impact future work of the pillars and investment strategy.
The position will work closely with the Social Impact Fund, Ventures, and Mission Advancement staff in addition to portfolio members. A successful applicant will work independently in addition to collaborating with cross-functional teams to initiate, plan, and lead analysis from conceptual development to deliverable for varied business functions. This individual will represent the Fund on both internal and external initiatives.
The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of impact investing, strong analytical skills, and a passion for creating meaningful social and environmental change.
**Key Responsibilities**
+ **Refine and implement an impact measurement framework** that aligns with the Fund’s mission, goals, and investment thesis. The framework should include overarching goals for our theory of change and hone in on actionable impact metrics for each impact pillar
+ **Lead the development and implementation of a monitoring approach** for collecting grantee/investor metrics, including ensuring appropriate indicators and data sources are developed for each grantee, ensuring accuracy of reported data, validating data and assessing data quality at individual grantee and portfolio levels.
+ **Create the tools and processes to operationalize data collection, analysis and reporting** . These processes will build upon previously implemented data collection and collaborate with portfolio companies to set and track specific impact objectives, ensuring they align with broader impact goals and KPIs.
+ **Lead impact data collection and ensure the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of reported metrics** . Independently implement collection tools and software to enhance impact measurement and reporting capabilities.
+ **Analyze and report on impact performance** at the fund and portfolio levels, delivering insights to internal and external stakeholders.
+ **Prepare impact reports and presentations** for investors, board members, and the public to communicate the fund’s social and economic impact. This will include both strong quantitative data visualization in addition to written analysis of general portfolio trends.
+ **Produce products to organize and visualize data** , including slide decks, dashboards, charts, graphs and tables.
+ **Bringing an equity-focused understanding of learning and evaluation to our team** –specifically through understanding of multiple learning approaches and an understanding of how structural racism is present in the evaluation field
+ **Maintaining a dynamic learning environment for conducting impact and learning** including building infrastructure and processes and integrating client and team feedback to support improvements in our project delivery practice and decision making.
+ **Serve as a expert in impact measurement and collaborate with investment team on prospective investments.** This includes assessing their potential to generate measurable impact and their alignment with the fund’s impact objectives.
+ **Support portfolio companies in developing and refining their impact strategies, offering trainings, and 1:** 1 guidance on best practices in impact measurement and reporting.
+ **Research areas of interest,** determining outcome areas, general industry trends, and providing cost-benefit analysis estimates on potential for impact based on solutions/areas.
+ **Educate the investment team and broader organization on evolving impact investing standards** , methodologies, and emerging trends. This includes engaging with external networks, industry groups, and partners to stay informed on best practices and innovation in impact evaluation.
+ **Conduct statistical analysis** to assess trends over time against key outcomes in the SIF strategy
+ **Independently manage issues** that may arise on multiple tasks or projects with limited or no management involvement.
+ **Acts as a resource and/or mentor** for other members of the team on community health and evaluation issues and may be responsible for training and guidance of other employees.
**Qualifications**
**At least five (5) years of professional experience that includes:**
+ Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Public Health, Social Science, Economics, Business) or equivalent work experience
+ Experience designing and/or implementing frameworks and tools for measuring impact, including logic models, program rubrics, and theories of change
+ Deep understanding and analysis of racial disparities in public systems and the evaluation industry and how those dynamics play out in diverse communities
+ Expertise in driving continuous improvement. Demonstrated ability to build and scale the implementation of large-scale organization priorities, including developing strategy, getting buy-in and assessing ongoing process improvement
+ Experience in organizational effectiveness, strategy, and/or change management to drive awareness, understanding and amplification of impact
+ Deep knowledge of impact measurement methodologies, data analysis, or evaluation with ability to ensure processes are rigorous, relevant and aligned with industry best practices
+ Experience creating and implementing successful strategies and plans to engender participation of clients and partners (e.g. community stakeholders, government clients, team members, etc.) in measurement efforts
+ Experience providing training or presentations on learning agendas, data collection, and analysis to non-technical stakeholders.
+ Ability to create synthesized and impactful data visualizations across multiple projects for a variety of data sets (qualitative and quantitative) and audiences
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex impact metrics to both technical and non-technical audiences
+ Experience working in or with financial services, community development, nonprofit, government, public policy, CDFI and adjacent industries is desired
+ Strong project management skills as an individual contributor that leads end to end strategy and implementation
+ Collaborative management style that coaches and empowers team members to do their best work
**Preferred experience:**
+ Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., Public Health, Social Science, Economics, Business)
