UMIAQ Environmental is seeking a Senior Spill Response Manager to lead and oversee spill response operations, environmental remediation, and emergency preparedness programs. This position will be responsible for managing response teams, ensuring regulatory compliance, and coordinating with federal, state, and local agencies to mitigate environmental impacts effectively. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in spill response, hazardous materials management, and environmental emergency planning.
ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities:
Lead and manage spill response operations, including oil, hazardous waste, and chemical spills in remote and harsh environments.Develop and implement spill response plans, emergency preparedness protocols, and mitigation strategies.Coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies, including the EPA, DOT, USCG, and ADEC to ensure compliance with spill response regulations.Manage logistics for remote operations, including mobilization of response teams, equipment, and resources via air, ice roads, and marine vessels.Oversee the containment, recovery, and disposal of hazardous materials, ensuring regulatory compliance with RCRA, TSCA, OPA 90, and NCP.Train and lead spill response teams, ensuring personnel are equipped to work in Arctic conditions and comply with HAZWOPER, ICS/NIMS, and cold-weather safety protocols.Conduct environmental impact assessments, shoreline evaluations, and ice-dependent response planning for spills in Arctic marine and tundra environments.Develop partnerships with local communities, Indigenous organizations, and stakeholders to improve spill response efficiency and environmental protection.Maintain spill response documentation, incident reports, and compliance records to support regulatory reporting and company best practices.Identify opportunities for business development and contract acquisition related to Arctic spill response and environmental remediation projects. QualificationsQualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Emergency Management, Occupational Safety, or a related field (preferred).10+ years of experience in spill response management, hazardous materials handling, or environmental emergency response.In-depth knowledge of EPA, OSHA, DOT, and Coast Guard spill response regulations.Strong leadership and project management skills, with experience in ICS/NIMS incident response frameworks.Certifications such as HAZWOPER 40, ICS 100/200/300, CSP, CHMM, or equivalent (preferred).Experience working in extreme cold-weather conditions, remote field operations, and emergency response scenarios.Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders, including government agencies, tribal organizations, and environmental groups.Ability to lead field teams during emergency response operations and work extended hours when necessary.Preferred Arctic Spill Response Expertise:
Experience with oil spill response tactics, dispersants, and mechanical recovery.
Knowledge of Arctic logistics and supply chain challenges for emergency response operations.
Familiarity with wildlife protection and habitat restoration in Arctic spill response scenarios.
Understanding of Indigenous community engagement and co-management practices in Arctic regions.
