Maxar is seeking a high energy Senior Systems Engineer to lead cutting-edge projects in support of air and space-based resources and the national security enterprise to join our team in Herndon, VA. 

Project 

You will be part of the Aerospace Engineering team formed to address strategic to tactical objectives to ensure our capabilities developed organically and through partnerships meet the needs across an array of envisioned national security use cases.  These enterprise-scale capabilities power Maxar business systems and some of our product offerings.  

You will perform system engineering and integration efforts for classified projects associated with various DoD and Intelligence Community (IC) customers. This includes leading Agile development scrum teams and coordinating with end customers. 

Day-to-Day with your Colleagues: 

Responsibilities: 

Act as product owner for multiple projects in classified environment to design, develop and modify programs, including prototypes. 

Exercise independent judgment and discretion in overall program system engineering, integration, and testing. 

Prioritize, plan, track projects and compiles progress reports for upper management. 

What you'll be doing day-to-day: 

Influencing the shaping of future systems by designing and contributing to the architecture. 

Leading the efforts to design a complete and complex framework, system, or product. 

Utilizing the latest advances in digital engineering and model-based systems engineering to drastically reduce development and test timelines and improve system performance. 

Defining processes for technical platforms, system specifications, input/output, and working parameters for hardware and/or software compatibility. 

Conceiving system interfaces and business application prototypes. 

Developing and updating system Concepts of Operations (CONOPS).

Working with Mission Management software to design collection strategies across a virtual constellation. 

Identifying and reducing program risks and issues. 

Identifying, analyzing, and resolving system design weaknesses. 

Providing multi-layered technical expertise for next-generation initiatives. 

Understanding strategic themes and other key business drivers for architecture, developing architecture plans, and communicating technical decisions to leadership, the customer, and non-technical stakeholders. 

Evaluating technology and performing objective trade studies to support program solutions development. 

Maintaining a high-level, holistic vision of enterprise solutions and development initiatives. 

Strategically and tactically maintaining the balance of competing requirements from business needs, customer expectations, and technical requirements. 

Minimum requirements: 

Must be a U.S. citizen and wiling to undergo a background check for a security clearance. 

Requires a technical Bachelor's degree. 

A minimum of 12 years of relevant work experience. 

Must be willing to work on-site in Herndon, VA.

Experience must demonstrate ability to deliver against key programmatic milestones and a strong understanding of satellites and enterprise-level systems and processes. 

Experience as a product owner/lead system engineer in planning and management of a technical team. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Possess a current/active TS/SCI security clearance with CI Polygraph. 

Master's degree with a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, or a PhD with a minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience. 

In-depth knowledge of Agile software development process, to include Atlassian tools and MS Office products.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

Demonstrated ability to anticipate and manage issues in the execution large scale development efforts. 

Fundamental understanding of multi-INT sensor modalities and their mission applications. 

Demonstrated experience with and understanding of national-level mission planning, collection management, processing, exploitation and dissemination systems and processes. 

Experience with ISR planning, scheduling, or modeling and simulation software.

Experience with Digital Engineering and Model-based System Engineering tools and applications.

We use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range. To accommodate all locations, we have listed the bottom to the top of the possible range, and will share the target range for a specific location during the recruiting discussion. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidates unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:

$127,000.00 - $270,000.00 annually.

Additionally, this position is incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and/or individual results achieved; the specific incentive plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions.
