Job Summary:
The Senior Server Engineer provides support for a 24x7x365 infrastructure healthcare environment. This position works closely with other engineers, team leads, and project managers in order to build, support and maintain a stable environment for the Virtua Health System. The position works with limited supervision, assists in analyzing, designing, implementing, maintaining, and enhancing large complex systems or environments. Senior Server Engineers participate and lead complex projects from inception to completion and act as technical subject matter experts for other parts of the organization. Designs and supports multi-tier solutions and systems, including servers, appliances, network devices, or cloud services. A Senior Server Engineer works closely management and vendors to design and support Virtua's infrastructure.
Position Responsibilities
Design complex server solutions from concept to completed product.
Coordinates and performs upgrades to server hardware, network operating systems and server-based applications.
Monitors and tunes LAN based systems to maximize performance, reliability and security.
Maintains documentation, including but not limited to: server hardware, software, network operating systems, server-based applications and configurations. Creates training material for team members regarding best practices, on-going support, and run books.
Provides top level escalation support to Server Analysts and Engineers with their projects, tasks, and technical issues.
Provides after-hours support as required.
Leads large and complex server projects (including planning, implementing, monitoring, and communicating project status to management). Coordinates server installations, upgrades and fixes. Coordinates the creation and testing of disaster recovery plans. Fine tunes administrative tasks using PowerShell. Provides top level troubleshooting and analysis support for all server software, hardware, and infrastructure related issues.
Position Qualifications Required:
Required Experience:
5 - 7 years’ experience and expert knowledge of Active Directory in large corporate environment (10,000 + users).
Expert knowledge of and experience with DNS, DHCP in large corporate environment (10,000+ users).
Expert knowledge of WINTEL solutions.
Multi-year experience building and configuring Wintel solutions
Expert understanding of TCP/IP principles and LAN/WAN technologies and use of network capture utilities
Expert knowledge of VMware
Expert knowledge of one additional platform or solution (Exchange, SQL, Citrix, etc.)
Experience with solution and server monitoring
Experience with cloud-based solutions and services
Required Education:
Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related area or equivalent experience.
Training / Certification / Licensure:
Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer preferred.
VMware Certification preferred
Additional platform certification preferred
