Due to the continued growth and evolution of the organization, we are seeking a detail-oriented tax professional who will be primarily responsible for leading all tax-related matters within the organization and with ownership. The Sr. Tax Accountant will be responsible for ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations, while optimizing tax positions for the organization. This role will be responsible for preparing and filing various tax documents, providing advice on tax-related impacts of operations (including identifying tax-saving opportunities), conducting tax research, and working with third-party tax professionals on ownership tax returns.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAnalyze financial data to identify tax implications and tax planning opportunitiesProvide tax planning advice to the organization to optimize tax positions and identify tax-saving opportunitiesAccumulate, analyze, and process financial accounting data to prepare quarterly tax estimates for ownershipPrepare and file accurate and timely tax reporting requirements, including monthly sales tax, property tax, Form 945, and Form 1042 filingsWork closely with Lightning Foundation leadership in preparing and filing annual Form 941 tax returnsLead year-end tax filings of VSG entities and support the Director of Accounting with the annual financial statement audits, including preparation and review of related Audit workpapers and external Firm RequestsAssist with month-end close journal entry and reconciliation process for VSG entitiesReview account reconciliations and research reconciling items timelyAssist with event settlements for ticketed events at Amalie Arena and Yuengling Center, as neededIdentifies and implements opportunities for process improvementsMonitor changes in tax laws, regulations, and requirements to ensure ongoing compliance and implement internal controls to identify and mitigate potential tax risksPerform special projects, as needed.Game/Event ResponsibilitiesGame/Event Night responsibilities: LimitedApproximate number of events worked per year: TBD, but not expected to be more than 10 events/concerts (non-hockey)QualificationsCPA License preferred.Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.3-4 years of professional tax experience, with emphasis on partnership taxation.Not-for-profit taxation or Big 4 experience is preferred, but not required.Related experience in the Sports & Entertainment industry is a plus.Experience with an enterprise accounting system, such as Sage Intacct, is a plus.Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to articulate clearly to internal departments.Great attention to detail and proven ability to analyze large amounts of data.Ability to work efficiently and effectively in office environment that can be exciting and distracting.Must be able to work in an ambiguous environment and handle multiple tasks with ability to reprioritize and shift priorities quickly.Strong Excel, data analysis, and data management skills.Thorough understanding and knowledge of professional finance & accounting terminology, techniques, theories, and principles.Strong knowledge of tax laws, regulations, compliance requirements, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)Working ConditionsAbility to work efficiently and effectively in office environment that can be exciting and distracting. This is an onsite role; flexibility to work a minority of time remotely. May work longer hours from August to October during Audit Season. Ability to work extended hours, nights, and weekends as needed to accommodate monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Ability to lift/carry/move up to 10lbs. Ability to work in cold indoor temperatures.
