Sr. Technician, Corrosion Control
The position is flexible to sit at our Ancona (Streator, IL) or Troy Grove (Mendota, IL) Storage Field. The purpose of this position is to inspect and maintain the corrosion control mechanisms utilized by the company to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures. This position will provide ongoing support to the Corrosion Technicians and their management in the performance of all corrosion-related duties and tasks associated with the Company’s storage and transmission assets. Corrosion control utilizes chemistry, electricity, physics, metallurgy, and other sciences to mitigate or control corrosion damage through the application of cathodic protection to control the mechanical, electrical, and chemical aspects involved in the deterioration of a material (corrosion). **JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES** The Sr. Corrosion Technician position is assigned to an operational area where they are responsible for managing daily activities related to corrosion control including, but not limited to the following: + Compliance surveys and all associated inspections, data management, and remediation related to corrosion control (e.g., annual test points, isolated services, rectifiers, casings, bonds, foreign crossings, AC Monitoring, Atmospheric, Internal, etc.) to remain in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and procedures. + Timely creation and management of remediation work and/or orders (e.g., install anodes, clear short, install insulator, ICCP systems, repair / replace test station). + Work with and follows through with necessary departments to ensure timely completion of remediation activities where required. + Provide technical support, training, assistance, and qualification/evaluation to Corrosion Apprentice/Level I/Level II/Level III Technicians. + Maintenance and updates of corrosion control mapping systems in a timely fashion. + Management and integration of corrosion control records and pipeline data to ensure compliance in the company designated database systems. + Perform & analyze indirect surveys (CIS, DCVG, ACVG, ACCA, etc.) + Oversight and support of projects (ILI, DA, ICCP, DE, etc.). + Provide corrosion contractor oversight, scheduling, and provide direction. + Provide relevant support / inspection for cathodic protection needs on engineering / construction projects. + Provide corrosion control-related support and field findings to internal departments (TIMP, IVP, Engineering, etc.) or external contract support. + Accurately enter new facilities and compliance data into the appropriate system of record in a timely fashion, generating necessary reports when required. + Participate in regulatory audits. + Design, Improve, document, and implement internal corrosion mitigation program. + Perform on-sight gas quality and sample analysis and/or send to labs for further analysis pertaining to internal corrosion. + Monitor pressure vessels, wellhead sweeps and piping wall thickness for internal corrosion. + Perform weight loss coupon monitoring and reporting for compliance with Code requirements. + Maintain a safe work environment. + Review and evaluate new corrosion control technologies. Assist with the development of corresponding procedures. **Qualifications – Sr. Corrosion Technician** The Sr. Corrosion Technician is the highest field level position in the Corrosion Control department and is a leader (SME) in the department. A Sr. Corrosion Technician may enter the role with direct corrosion control experience and industry recognized certifications (NACE/AMPP). A Sr. Corrosion Technician has the highest level of technical expertise, provides training to others (inside and outside of department), presents difficult topics to improve awareness, can troubleshoot complicated corrosion related issues, install equipment, assist with writing and maintaining technical policies and procedures, assist in design of new facilities and actively assist in the development of other technicians. The Sr. Corrosion Technician will foster relationships with the pertinent groups both internal (Storage, Transmission, Engineering, Construction, Integrity Management, etc.) and external to manage all corrosion control related tasks necessary to be successful in the operating environment. This position requires demonstration of good work habits and organization to work both efficiently and productively. The Sr. Corrosion Technician is required to demonstrate a knowledge of procedures, company policies, safety systems and equipment, exhibit safe work habits, have the necessary qualifications under the company’s OQ policy, and have proven the depth of corrosion control knowledge for external and internal corrosion. **Education, Certifications/Licenses:** **Required:** + Associate degree – technical / trade school with math, electrical, or science-based curriculum OR + High school diploma with equivalent combination of education and experience + The Corrosion Control Management Team will evaluate a candidate’s equivalent education and experience to determine if the individual meets the qualifications for the position. + NACE CP2 Certification (Cathodic Protection Technician) + NACE Corrosion Technologist Certification or company designated equivalent. + NACE Internal Corrosion Technologist Certification + NACE CIP 1 Certification + Must possess a valid driver’s license. **Preferred:** + Bachelor’s Degree – Technical with Math or science-based curriculum. + NACE Sr. Internal Corrosion Technician + NACE CP3 (Cathodic Protection Technologist) + NACE Sr. Corrosion Technologist Certification + NACE CIP 2 or NACE PCS 2 **Progression Requirements:** + N/A **Related Work Experience:** **Required:** + 10 years pipeline corrosion control experience. **Preferred:** + 15 years pipeline corrosion control experience. **Specific Skills & Knowledge:** **Required:** + MS Office Suite – advanced proficiency + Attention to detail. + Organizational Skills - advanced + Ability to read and understand codes, standards, and procedures. + Knowledge of basic electrical principles – intermediate proficiency + Electrical knowledge (Ohms Law) + Mathematics aptitude – intermediate proficiency (Algebra & Geometry) + Problem solving skills. + Critical Thinking + Data Analysis. + Pipeline Compliance System (PCS) and Survey Manager proficiency. + Field Data Logger Proficiency (Allegro, MESA 3 Tablet, etc.) + Geographic Information System (GIS) proficiency + Work Management System proficiency (Maximo, etc.) **Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:** + Frequent local travel with occasional (5 – 20%) overnight travel. + This position frequently requires prolonged standing or walking. + This position frequently requires the incumbent to reach above shoulder level. + This position frequently requires the incumbent to bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl. + This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. + The incumbent works in both office and field environments. + The incumbent may work near or with moving mechanical parts. + The incumbent may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, or chemicals. + The incumbent may be exposed to varying outdoor weather conditions. + The incumbent may be exposed to excessive noise. **Disclaimer:** _This information describes the general nature and level of work performed by employees in this job.
