The University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School of Engineering seeks a Communications Writer to help increase the visibility of the School and its faculty, students and alumni. The Communications Writer will report to the Swanson School’s Senior Communications Manager, and will assist with publicity/news releases, feature articles, copywriting and editing, advertising, and marketing content, print and/or digital signage, web content, and proofreading.
The preferred candidate will possess a Bachelor's and/or Master’s Degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or a related field from a 4-year college or university, as well as a minimum of 3 years of previous experience, preferably in a science or academic environment. Excellent news and feature -writing/editing skills and ability to apply these within Associated Press Style and university guidelines, sometimes within short deadlines. Ability to effectively interpret and communicate STEM research to a variety of audiences. Ability to work in a team environment and to interact professionally with the university community.
Strong organizational, time-management and multi-task skills with ability to work on multiple assignments in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Ability to research and organize information from a variety of sources and accurately communicate in written form to a variety of audiences.
Manages the communications strategy for the University’s online and print communications, develops effective marketing and communication strategies, and ensure timeline deliverables. Crafts, tracks, and revises strategic messaging to best meet communication needs and devised strategies. Manages external creative production services and develops website content.
