Stable Technician

Position Description: Responsible for all aspects of the daily care of horses and animals in the center and maintaining the facility grounds.  Helps implement and run all aspects of programming, clinics shows etc. Performs some monetary transactions in payment of services, general assistance to Equestrian Director, and assistant manager. Light office and administrative duties as deemed necessary, light veterinary work, handling a variety of horses in a daily matter in all weather conditions along with on-the-job training.

PTO, 401-k. medical, dental, life insurance and vision offered after 90 days for full-time employees.

Essential Job Functions:

Lead by example and promote Oldfield Core Values, Characteristics, Employee Constitution and Decision Making. Provides all aspects but not limited to horse care such as feeding, turnout, and grooming etc. Maintains equestrian center, pastures, and horse stall areas. Prepares horses for rides. Exercise/riding on an as needed basis. May drive truck and horse trailer as necessary. Conducts pony rides. Assists daily care of all horses in ride program as needed. Maintains ride appointments and office duties. Greets customers with a positive, helpful attitude; handles ride registration procedures. Orders supplies needed per direction of Assistant manager or Director. Maintains inventory. May run errands as deemed necessary. Completes all other duties as assigned by equestrian management. Must maintain the policy of this company to conduct operations in a manner that will prevent injuries to people and damage to property and equipment and that will comply with all applicable regulations for safety and health. Help with the setup, planning, execution, and tear down of all Equestrian Center programing. Promote and adhere to standards set by Oldfield Club.

Job Requirement:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of 2 years professional horse husbandry experience Basic Knowledge and demonstration of equine and human first aid. Ability to recognize a sick or lame horse. Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion, following instructions completely with attention to detail. Interaction with members, guests and co-workers must be on a professional level at all times. Must speak fluent English and possess excellent communication skills. Mandatory 2+years equine experience and hospitality experience preferred. Demonstrated experience in interactions with members and guests. Must be able to work on more than one assignment at a time with interruptions, changes and delays while meeting daily deadlines. Must be able to remain focused and work effectively, efficiently, and cheerfully on own and with a team. Reliable transportation Valid US license Be able to pass drug test. Must be able to remain calm, think clearly and act quickly in emergencies.

Equipment to be used: Vehicle, farm equipment, routine equine tools and equipment, and office equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Capable of working extended hours, to include weekends, nights and holidays. Frequent or occasional need to perform the following physical activities: reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, twisting, lifting, and climbing. Frequent need to perform standing and walking activities. Position involves walking, standing and/or movement throughout the day. Constant need to perform the following physical activities: grasping, turning, finger dexterity. Frequent need to stand for long periods. Position may involve riding, exercising and/or lunging of horses. Lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs. frequently and 75 lbs. occasionally. Vision requirements: constant need to view small, faint or partially obscured print, with corrective lenses as needed. Frequent need to see small details and things clearly beyond arms’ reach. Hearing requirements: constant need to speak on telephone, respond to and converse with all types of people. Ability to hear fire alarms and emergency equipment. Working environment is both indoors and outdoors. Must be able to perform all job duties in all types of weather conditions.
