Staff Accountant

Position Summary:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial tracking, reporting, estimating, and analysis of capital expenditures (CapEx). This role works closely with project managers, facilities, and finance leadership to develop construction cost estimates, monitor budgets, and ensure compliance with accounting standards related to construction and infrastructure investments.


Responsibilities: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

Develop preliminary project cost estimates based on conceptual plans, historical data, and vendor inputs. Assist in reviewing vendor/contract quotes for accuracy and completeness. Coordinate with procurement and project management teams to evaluate material and labor pricing.Provide cost data during planning phase to inform budgeting decisions. Maintain internal database of historical project costs and unit pricing. Track and reconcile capital project spending against approved budgets.Review project-related invoices and ensure proper coding to capital vs. expense accounts.Maintain project accounting files and documentation, including contracts, purchase orders, and change orders.Partner with project managers and maintenance teams to monitor project timelines and spending.Prepare monthly reports on capital spending and variances; highlight risks and opportunities.Assist in the development and tracking of fixed asset additions and disposals.Ensure compliance with internal policies and GAAP for capital asset accounting.Reconcile construction-in-progress (CIP) accounts and support timely capitalization of completed assets.Support annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting of capital expenditures.Collaborate with auditors during annual audits and provide necessary documentation for capital project-related items.Analyze estimate-to-actual variances post-project to improve future estimating accuracy.  Assist with ad hoc financial analysis and special projects related to capital planning and investment.Other responsibilities as assigned by management. Requirements

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.2–4 years of accounting experience, with 1+ years of experience in construction estimating or related cost analysis in a project-based environment.Prior experience with capital project accounting, construction budgeting, or fixed assets preferred.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP systems.Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of in-house personnel.Familiarity with construction drawings and cost modeling a plus.Solid understanding of fixed asset accounting principles and construction cost components. Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset and excellent organizational skills. Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently. 

Physical Demands:

Required to use hands to operate computer controls.May be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, stand, bend, sit, talk, hear, or walk for long periods. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.Specific vision abilities required include close vision, ability to focus. 

Work Environment:

Required to be present in the office to collaborate with directors, peers, and other departments daily.Potential to move between production operations sites/areas to complete job functions; regular, ongoing travel throughout geographic areas on a continual basis as a normal part of the role, requiring the use of a personal vehicle. Hours/Travel maybe subject to changed based on management/company discretion.

Pay Range:

$65,000 - $85,000 per year
