Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join a non-profit organization in Alexandria, Virginia. This Contract-to-permanent position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the financial operations of the organization while expanding your accounting expertise. The ideal candidate will excel in managing day-to-day financial tasks and ensuring accurate recordkeeping. Responsibilities: • Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. • Reconcile bank accounts and maintain financial records to support monthly and annual closing processes. • Manage tenant account receivables and oversee accounts payable transactions. • Process cash receipts and ensure proper documentation and timely recording. • Maintain organized filing systems for financial records and other related documents. • Utilize Yardi software to efficiently manage accounting tasks and generate reports. • Assist in audits and provide necessary documentation to support financial reviews. • Collaborate with team members to improve accounting workflows and processes. • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and applicable regulations. Requirements • Proven experience in preparing journal entries and maintaining a general ledger. • Strong knowledge of accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) processes. • Proficiency in using Yardi or similar accounting software. • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage filing systems effectively. • Demonstrated ability to reconcile bank accounts and analyze financial data. • Detail-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving skills. • Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and stakeholders. • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
