Covia is looking for a dynamic Staff Accountant who will have a positive impact on the Accounting team at its Ottawa, IL location. The Staff Accountant will perform cost-accounting duties including item setup and maintenance, development of material and production costs, and establish standard cost data for all Covia facilities. In addition, this person will review and analyze actual costs and update standard costs on a quarterly basis and monitor weighted average inventory costs at terminals and adjust as necessary. This person will also perform general accounting duties, including monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, plant review and analysis, internal and external audit requests, and support fixed assets, lease accounting, and freight accounting functions.
The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:
Item setup and maintenance in ERP system Quarterly cost updates Bill of Material/Routing setup and maintenance Reconcile general ledger accounts monthly Participate in month end close process Responsible for review and analysis of plant operations Assist in pulling together data for internal and external auditors Serve as backup to fixed assets, lease accounting, and freight accounting Other projects as assigned
The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or other relevant field required 1 to 2 years of technical accounting experience required, 3 to 5 years’ experience preferred 1 to 2 years cost accounting experience preferred Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with intermediate skill of MS Excel Working knowledge of IFS preferred Great analytical skills with attention to detail Excellent written and oral communication skills Ability to work independently or part of a team and to handle multiple tasks concurrently
