Staff Accountant - Research

Vitalant Research Institute is seeking a dedicated Staff Accountant - Research to manage the financial processes that power our research efforts, with a special focus on contracts and grants accounting.   In this role, you'll be responsible for coordinating all accounts payable and receivable related to research contracts and grants, working closely with the corporate finance department to ensure accurate reconciliation between project accounts and the General Ledger. Your expertise in managing the financial aspects of grants and contracts will ensure compliance and efficiency in our research initiatives. Additionally, you’ll perform a variety of general accounting functions critical to the financial health of our research projects.   By joining our team, you'll contribute to advancing life-saving research through precise financial stewardship. If you’re passionate about making an impact through your accounting expertise in contracts and grants, we’d love to have you on board!   All interested applicants are asked to provide a cover letter in addition to a resume.    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains grants & contracts data in Oracle Projects, including project setup, project period extensions, and allocation of funding. Maintains grant and contract AP files.Reviews coding and ensures proper approval on accounts payable invoices. Reconciles travel reimbursements.Records and submits accounts receivable to lockbox as needed.Reviews and reconciles A/P by grant and contract and generates revenue for month-end close.Prepares cost transfers and journal entries for month-end close.Prepares Sponsor invoices for review.Prepares and reconciles monthly extramural and intramural financial reports; Prepares reports and pulls information for annual single audit.Participates in system updates.Coordinates physical inventory, reconciles with Corporate Office, and maintains government property inventory and records.Knowledge/Education Relevant Bachelor’s degree required.   Experience One year accounting experience preferred.   Skills/Abilities Ability to work in a team environment. Efficient oral and written communication skills. Strong organization and analytical skills. Ability to work well with all levels of staff and management. Must maintain confidentiality. Strong computer skills.
