Position Summary:
Under the direction of the EVP/Chief Legal Officer, the Staff Attorney-Mortgage Lending, will provide comprehensive legal support and strategic advice on a wide range of issues involving consumer litigation, employment relations, contract negotiations, dispute resolution, and compliance advisement. The incumber will also assist with corporate governance, legal operations, internal investigations, and external counsel relationships.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school Bar membership in any state 3-5 years of relevant experience Strong knowledge of the Loan Originator Compensation rule, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), contract law, employment issues, litigation, intellectual property, governance, and compliance Understanding of mortgage regulations and technology Ability to identify, assess and manage legal risks associated with all business activities Financial acumen, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills Experience in representing the organization in litigation and industry events
Essential Job Functions:
Conduct legal research; draft pleadings, legal memoranda, correspondence, and other legal papers; assist CLO in litigate of defense cases, including handling settlement conferences, engaging in motion practice, trials, writing appeals, and filing complaints; work with mortgage lenders; and provide other legal services as appropriate Demonstrate an understanding and commitment to the organization’s mission and value of justice Effectively and efficiently communicates over the phone or in person Conduct interviews thoroughly, competently, and objectively Provide quality legal advice and representation for the organization Prepare and file briefs, motions, and other necessary judicial pleadings, as necessary Ability to work independently and manage workload with minimal supervision Work professionally and collaboratively with colleagues, opposing counsel, and every level of management Show commitment to professional growth in diverse areas of law Maintain knowledge of legal developments including completion of Continuing Legal Education Perform responsibilities and duties based upon department needs and requirements as assigned by the CLO.
