Staff Chaplain Resource

Provides pastoral care services to patients and their families, and hospital staff members throughout the hospital. Responsibilities involve conducting spiritual needs assessments and providing spiritual care services as appropriate. Responsibilities also include facilitating support group and other patient support services, and developing and conducting education and training programs.

REQUIRED:

Graduate of an approved program of theological education (M.Div., MATS, Th.M., MPS, etc.) or Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of professional employment as a healthcare chaplain. A minimum of two (2) units of ACPE accredited Clinical Pastoral Education. Ordination and ecclesiastical endorsement for chaplaincy or the equivalent (e.g. a letter of acknowledgment from the candidate’s faith group or ecclesial authority indicating that the candidate’s ordination and ecclesiastical endorsement or the equivalent are actively in progress) as assessed by hiring Manager and/or System Director of Spiritual Health and Education. Ability to be open, flexible, and sensitive to cultural and religious diversity. Ability to do some evening work and overnight on-call duty. Ability to relate to medical and other patient care staff and religious leaders in the community. Ability to develop programs and coordinate the work of students.

PREFERRED:

Prior experience as a Chaplain in a hospital setting. Four (4) or more units of ACPE accredited Clinical Pastoral Education. (Completion is preferred within 18 months of hire.) Board Certification, BCCI (Association of Professional Chaplains) or the equivalent. Post-Master’s degree education, advanced studies, or certifications related to specific chaplaincy specialization, e.g. Women’s Health, Oncology, Perinatal Loss, Trauma, Palliative Care, Thanatology, etc.
