Job Summary

As the Civil Engineer, your responsibility is to perform engineering and design to ensure successful completion of Long Island Transmission & Distribution construction projects.

Job Responsibilities

Develop and evaluate the design of electric transmission systems and related facilities based upon reliability and economy, with consideration to operation, safety and maintenance requirements.

Develop material, engineering design, construction specifications/associated drawings, and standards as required for successful completion of assigned projects (Overhead, Underground Transmission or Civil/Structural).

Develop, review and revise standards as a result of recommendations by industry associations and codes (e.g. IEEE, ASCE, AISC, ACI, ASME, EEI, ANSI, AEIC, EPRI and NESC) related to state of the art materials and engineering/operating methods.

Participate in Research & Development initiatives, evaluate and procure new materials/equipment to improve performance of the electric transmission system.

Work with internal and external organizations/customers to ensure prudent engineering solutions are undertaken to special engineering and construction projects.

Perform budget/project cost estimates, special engineering studies, investigations and calculations as required.

Contribute all details of time accounting to Work plan efforts, including expense and capital time

 

Travel may be required to represent the department and company at industry meetings and vendor inspections.

 

Ability to respond to emergency storm and other conditions requires field work during nights and weekend.

Job Specific Qualifications

Required

BS Degree in Civil Engineering EIT Certificate and the ability to obtain Professional Licensure in NYS Four or more years of experience in  structural analysis, reinforced concrete, structural steel and soil mechanics. Experience with marine structures is required. Knowledge of AISC, ACI, ASCE, NESC, NYSDOT, NYS & local building codes. Familiarity and experience in  document management systems ( e.g.TeamCenter), 3D structural analysis and design software (i.e., Staad III) and AutoCAD. Knowledge of ANSI, ASTM, National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Electrical Code (NEC) and other related guidelines related to electric transmission system engineering, design and operation (latest codes).  Familiarity with Occupational Safety Health Act (OSHA) guidelines. Experience with working with other engineering disciplines Experience with using Microsoft Office computer programs such as Word, Excel, Access and Outlook. A valid US driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driving record.

Desired

Knowledge of engineering design and analysis of underground electric transmission systems including 23-345 KV pipe type cable and solid dielectric cable systems. Knowledge of AutoCAD and TeamCenter  Knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Electrical Code (NEC) and other related guidelines related to electric transmission system engineering, design and operation.  Familiarity with Occupational Safety Health Act (OSHA) guidelines. Demonstrated verbal, written, interpersonal communication skills and computer skills.
