Staff Civil Engineering Technician
**Description** ARA is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented individual to operate, maintain, and repair specialized pavement data collection equipment for highway infrastructure assessment, in support of ARA’s contract with the Florida DOT State Materials Office (SMO) in Gainesville. No previous pavement testing experience is necessary; training will be provided. Applicants should possess good communication skills, flexibility, and a willingness to learn and be challenged. This position involves travel throughout the State and requires an excellent driving record and driving skills, mechanical ability, and basic computer knowledge. All travel expenses are paid by ARA. When not traveling, technicians perform office-based activities, such as equipment maintenance and data processing. The rate of pay for this position ranges from $19/hr (no pavement testing-related experience) to $22/hr (equipment operator with multiple years of experience), and premium overtime is paid for hours over 40 in a week. We also offer a comprehensive and generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life, and retirement plans. **Staff civil engineering technician requirements:** + Must be at least 21 years old and have an excellent driving record. + Must be willing and available to travel, sometimes for a week or more at a time. + Must have basic computer knowledge, such as sending/receiving email, and Microsoft Word or Google documents. + Must have mechanical ability; previous mechanical experience preferred (e.g., performing routine inspections and/or troubleshooting issues with automobiles, aircraft, or related specialized equipment). + Previous experience operating pavement testing equipment is a plus (e.g., pavement profiler, falling weight deflectometer, ground penetrating radar, digital survey vehicle, high-speed friction tester, dynamic cone penetrometer, faultmeter, mobile retroreflectometer). **About ARA:** ARA is an employee-owned international research and engineering company recognized for providing technically superior solutions to complex and challenging problems in the physical sciences.
