About this roleUdemy is looking to hire a talented Staff Data Scientist for the Business Analytics team which is responsible for providing insightful analyses and dashboards to drive informed decision-making and improve business performance. Areas of responsibility will include user LTV and segmentation, understanding of Consumer business performance, and deep dives into content and instructor trends. The Staff Data Scientist will play a pivotal role in (1) delivering detailed analyses and intuitive dashboards to highlight and monitor key trends, (2) understanding needs of individual users and instructors on a global scale, and (3) translating data into meaningful insights to support decision-making.
This role will partner with leaders across Analytics/Data Science, Finance, Content, Product, and Marketing teams to define and implement metrics evaluating the health of the business and driving successful decision-making. Success in this role requires strong skills in analytical problem solving, SQL, Python/modeling experience, Tableau/data visualization, large-scale database solutions, and cross-functional collaboration. A successful candidate will be a self-starter who has strong attention to detail and is comfortable with ambiguity in fast-paced environments.
What you'll be doing Develop and improve upon LTV and segmentation models to strengthen understanding of user behaviors (e.g. user lifecycle, new user acquisition) Generate and present insights from your work to both technical and non-technical audiences (e.g Business Performance Review meetings) Create comprehensive Tableau dashboards and automated reports to surface user, content, and instructor insights on ongoing basis Be hands on with extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes to build data pipelines that support modeling, reporting, and other analytics solutions Partner with cross-functional stakeholders and leaders to shape the team’s areas for analyses and then drive execution Recognize and adopt data best practices: data integrity, data validation, methods of analysis, and documentation Proactively influence prioritization through data-driven insights Support ad-hoc data analysis requests from senior leaders What you’ll have BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience 6+ years of hands-on Data Science experience (4+ if PhD) Expert skills in SQL and Python. Advanced skills in Excel, Tableau (or other data visualization tool), and ETL tools (e.g. Airflow, dbt). Experience in analyzing trends and providing value-added insights through statistical analysis or other advanced analytical method Knowledge of data best practices. Can select appropriate method of analysis based on business impact and make enhancements that improve data processes (e.g. when to invest in more advanced model, automating of ad-hoc and manual operations) 4+ years of hands-on experience in machine learning, model deployment, or a related technical field A track record of being a highly collaborative, team player who can work cross-functionally while balancing multiple projects/competing priorities Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams
