Role Summary A Staff Dynamics Engineer is responsible for architecting and delivering world class vehicle ride, handling, and steering for a given program. They direct the virtual and physical DVP to coordinate and track tuning activities against performance targets from concept to launch. Throughout the process, the SDE balances trade offs of attributes assigned to that person as attribute champion and with the wider vehicle supporting the Lead Dynamics Engineers. This role is multifaceted and works cross functionally to ensure the best outcome for the customer and for Rivian. Responsibilities Responsible for setting and delivering the objective and subjective dynamic attributes for a vehicle program Work closely with Chassis, Controls and Vehicle Dynamics teams to ensure the program is on track to hit target metrics and meet program timing milestones, from the initial mule phase all the way to production Define program targets using competitive benchmarking and prior vehicle dynamics knowledge Present on behalf of Vehicle Dynamics for program specific topics raised in design and attribute reviews Create and maintain ownership of subjective and objective Dynamics related attributes Provide subjective feedback and own the direction for final calibration on all Dynamics related attributes Efficiently manage weekly and quarterly task lists and assign ownership to proper Dynamics related engineer Perform vehicle level simulations with the intent to provide direction to the program while minimizing the need for physical testing Direct the supply base to ensure that the proper level of support is provided Create processes that allow the organization to be more efficient/effective Qualifications Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field; PhD is a plus. Experience: Minimum of 5-8 years in vehicle dynamics, suspension, or steering development, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership or senior engineering role. Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of vehicle dynamics principles, ride & handling, steering, and chassis systems; experience with simulation tools (e.g., CarSim, Simpack, MatLab, Adams) and physical testing. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Proven ability to work cross-functionally with teams such as Chassis, Controls, and Vehicle Dynamics to meet program targets and milestones. Project Management: Experience in managing complex engineering projects, including milestone tracking, resource allocation, and delivering on time and within scope. Data Analysis: Proficient in both objective (e.g., simulation) and subjective (e.g., driving impressions) performance evaluations to deliver optimized vehicle dynamics. Communication Skills: Strong presentation skills with the ability to lead discussions and present complex topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Problem-Solving: Ability to identify performance trade-offs and effectively balance competing attributes, ensuring customer satisfaction while meeting technical objectives. Pay Disclosure Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $154,000 - $192,500.00 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
