Primary Duties & Responsibilities
EHS Programs
Prepare and lead EHS Training Lead in the management and maintenance of the EHS LMS Manage respiratory protection program and conduct respirator fit testing as needed. Lead EHS physical related efforts Maintain EHS records, including training, permits and certificates, EHS contractor programs, hazard analysis, safety observations, SDS records, incident investigations and similar records. Improve and maintain EHS programs and policies Assist in EHS permitting activities Conduct EHS hazard analysis (such as JSAs) in coordination with the EHS team Conduct EHSR for new and modified work processes Conduct Safety Observations in coordination with the EHS team Participate in Incident Investigations, RCAs and complete reports in coordination with the EHS team. Able to lead RCAs Assist in the management of incident corrective actions Participate in EHS audits to assure adequate protection of employees and environment, regulatory compliance, and consistency with corporate standards. Responsible for all EHS postings and labels at the site. Works with employees in all departments to ensure all posting requirements are met. Be knowledgeable and serve as a back-up for maintenance of EHS equipment, such as the fire protection systems, community early warning sirens, security systems and wastewater treatment systems. Manage fire extinguishers at the site, ensuring the completion of monthly an annual inspection.Radiation Safety
Able to act as site Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), having the responsibility to ensure all regulatory, specific license and Coherent requirements are followed regarding radiological protection. Assessment of radiological hazards and ensuring the implementation of appropriate radiation safety precautions for the Saxonburg site. Performing routine audits of all areas where radioactive materials will be used.EHS Committee Activities
Leads safety committee meetings Maintain documentation and records for all EHS Committee Meetings. Ensure committee remains in compliance with state requirementsEmergency Response Team
Participate in 40-hour HAZWOPER training and join ERT Respond to emergencies as part of the ERT Participate in ERT meetings and annual refresher training. Assist with the instruction of initial and refresher HAZWOPER training Serve as a member of the site Confined Space Rescue team. Coordinate with other Coherent facility emergency response teams to facilitate the sharing of best practicesWaste Management
Assure that 90-day hazardous waste areas and tanks are timely inspected Assist Lead EHS Specialist to coordinate hazardous waste disposal if necessary. Act as a backup during waste disposal operations in the absence of the Waste Technician and EHS Specialist.Other Tasks
Timely completion of any assigned EHS projects, including remote and on-site assistance to other Coherent sites. Receive off-site EHS training to develop personal EHS capabilities Follow-up on employee EHS concerns received Address imminent hazards on the spot Participate fully in the employee development process Participate in formal EHS audits of Saxonburg site departments Assist in review and updating of Saxonburg and corporate EHS programs, guidelines and procedures Stand in for other EHS personnel at meetings and functions as necessary Remain up-to-date with all EHS regulations and techniques Participate in process hazard reviews, including HAZOPs Escort and assist regulatory inspectors as necessary Conduct industrial hygiene monitoring as requested and directed Inspect contractor construction projects daily for EHS complianceEducation & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in EHS related field OR in any related. 1-3 years’ EHS experience required.Skills
Due to ITAR compliance, this position requires candidates to be a U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident Alien, or Protected Individual per 8 U.S.C.1324b(a)(3). Trained as an RSO, or able to complete required training within 9 months of accepting this role. Preferred to have a Certified trainer in at least one specific EHS topic desired (such as First Aid/CPR, Confined Space Rescue, or Forklift Operations Certification). Must have ability to become certified to train in one of these areas within 2 years if not already certified. Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing. Computer literacy, including competence with Microsoft programs (PowerPoint, Excel and Word.Working Conditions
Work environment will range from office to plant floor. This position must generally work on-site (though occasional work-from-home days may be granted at the EHS Manager’s discretion per company policy). Must be comfortable working with chemicals and machinery. Must be willing to receive calls or work on nights or weekends occasionally. Must be willing to travel domestically as required (up to 5%). Must have the ability to work with employees and customers in a multi-cultural, global team environment.Physical Requirements
Must be able to effectively move around the Saxonburg facility. May be asked to stand for extended periods of time (up to 4 hours). May be required to occasionally perform strenuous work. Ability to lift 50 pounds and move a 55-gallon drum. Must be able to work sitting at least 6 hours per shift.Safety Requirements
All employees are required to attend scheduled training, follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp. EHS standards. This includes the use of proper protective equipment (PPE) as required by the job responsibilities.
Managers will ensure that all safety and environmental procedures are followed consistently. They will ensure that risk assessments are performed, proper training, work instructions, required PPE is available, and will monitor compliance.
Must be able to wear all kinds of personal protective equipment, including full face respirators.
Prior to employment, this employee must go through a physical associated with the role on the ERT and wearing a respirator. This employee must go through annual physicals associated with respirator use and ERT membership.
Quality and Environmental Responsibilities
Depending on location, this position may be responsible for the execution and maintenance of the ISO 9000, 9001, 14001 and/or other applicable standards that may apply to the relevant roles and responsibilities within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.
This position must work as a part of the ISO-9001 system for the EHS related procedures that fall under that system.
