The Staff Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for maintaining a safe workplace for fellow associates and ensure the protection of the environment at a manufacturing site. Collaboration with internal business customers and domain authorities to ensure compliance with regulations and implementation of innovative EH&S techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Under limited supervision and in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position:
+ Provides technical expertise in the areas of workplace ergonomics, general industry safety orders, Johnson and Johnson worldwide environmental health and safety standards, hazard assessment techniques, accident investigations, and emergency response planning.
+ Monitors and investigates organizational and/or workplace hazards to people and property.
+ Ensures that workplace conditions align with local, federal, and company regulations.
+ Facilitates compliance audits, conducts risk assessments, and actively participates in health/safety or emergency response teams.
+ Reviews hazard assessments and identifies areas for improvement.
+ Prepares organizational or site training materials on new regulations and safety standards.
+ Participates in external audits or inspections that are moderately complex. Conducts safety and health training. Mentors’ new hires and lower-level engineers.
+ Maintains the Management of Change Process according to the requirements of OSHA Process Safety Management Standards, and FDA Current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
**Qualifications**
Education:
+ A minimum of a University/bachelor’s degree or Equivalent comparable level (chemical, mechanical, electrical)
Experience and Skills:
Required:
+ Minimally requires 6 Years EHS Work Experience related experience in Medical Device, Pharmaceutical and/or Consumer industry is required.
+ Maintain knowledge of cGMPs, process safety practices, environmental standards, and industry/profession trends.
Preferred:
+ Conducting and hosting all planned and unannounced internal and external inspectors and auditors according to the requirements in the site-specific procedure.
+ Responding to and reporting to external complaints and inquiries according to the site communications policies and procedures.
+ Corresponding with regulatory agencies to acquire, modify and renew permits required by federal, state, and local laws and regulations
+ Administrative (supervision) experience is preferred.
Other:
+ This position will support Athens, GA, and Cornelia, GA
+ This position is anticipated to have limited travel of up to 10%.
