Staff Engineer
ImpactAs a Staff Engineer on the Catalog Engineering team, you will play a crucial role in shaping Shipt's product catalog. Every day, you'll collaborate with a talented team of 5-6 engineers to design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain the mission-critical software that powers our product catalog.
You'll leverage cutting-edge technologies like Golang, Kafka , Terraform, Postgres , snowflake and more to ensure our catalog is secure, scalable, and performs flawlessly under high demand.
Staff Engineer will be a key driver of the catalog engineering success, impacting customer experience, operational efficiency, revenue generation, enabling data driven decisions , fostering innovation and scalability and overall business growth.

What You’ll Need to Be Successful

Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience

7+ Years of Software Development Experience

Proficiency in Go, Java, Python, Ruby or related language

Good understanding of data structures and algorithms

Proficiency in SQL 

Proficiency with REST APIs

Proficiency with Kafka or similar message queuing technologies/strategies

Demonstrated ability designing and interacting with complex persisted data models

Able to both identify and improve poor performing code or database queries

Thrives on engaging directly with business partners to build an in-depth understanding of business needs and deliver innovative solutions.

Empathic and enjoys learning from and mentoring other engineers

Strong sense of ownership and ability to execute a project to completion

Work Arrangement

Shipt considers candidates located near a Shipt office or workspace in Birmingham, San Francisco, or Minneapolis to be hybrid, which means that they have the flexibility to work from home (with leader approval) or at a Shipt office in order to facilitate the ability to innovate, collaborate, and spark team connections. In-office expectations will vary by role and leader.  Certain roles may require in-office presence on a full-time basis. Employees will also be eligible to receive discretionary vacation for exempt team members, paid holidays throughout the calendar year and paid sick leave.  Other compensation includes eligibility for an annual bonus and the potential for restricted stock units based on role.

Pay range:

Metro Areas of Boston, District of Columbia, Seattle and New York City: 

$110,421-$220,842

Metro Areas of Los Angeles and San Francisco: 

$115,763.35-$220,842

All other locations:

$92,036-$184,071

Please note that the salary range above is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location.
