**How will you make an impact in the role?**
We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Staff Engineer to join the Global Servicing Group Technology team at American Express. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for driving technological innovation, architecting scalable solutions and collaborating with Enterprise Architecture team to implement API Strategy, Cloud Strategy, Data Strategy and other EA Frameworks within the portfolio.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of designing and implementing cutting-edge systems, a passion for emerging technologies, and a commitment to driving excellence in a fast-paced, global environment.
Key Responsibilities
+ Objective/KPI Definition
+ Partners with stakeholders to define and align on strategic objectives and envision the future to meet the enterprise strategies.
+ Balances competing priorities and ensures alignment with organizational goals
+ Cross-Functional Strategic Alignment
+ Leads cross-functional solutioning, guiding engineering and integration teams while collaborating with third-party vendors for advisory support.
+ Works with PD&I to plan proactive and reactive Platform Health, incorporating alignment with Council priorities
+ Works with Engineering Directors to implement proactive and reactive Platform Health
+ Continuous Process Improvement & Quality Assurance
+ Leads efforts to integrate CI/CD tools, automating testing and deployment for faster, more reliable delivery cycles
+ Dedicates 25-35% of time to direct coding and technical development, ensuring that solutions meet high standards for quality and functionality
+ Leads Research & Discovery efforts of new capabilities and technology
+ Hosts Design Reviews with architects to ensure solution quality and compatibility
+ Create and manage the Solution Design Playbook and standards for the portfolio
+ Value-based Optimizations
+ Identifies capabilities and functionality that can be shared across solutions within the portfolio, streamlining their delivery and maintenance
+ Support strategic decisions on whether solutions should be developed inhouse, purchased as a commercial product, or configured within an existing solution
+ Search for synergies within the portfolio demand to identify opportunities to automate delivery efforts across teams / applications
**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.
+ Proven experience as a technical leader or Staff engineer in a large-scale, global organization.
+ Strong expertise in system architecture, design patterns, software development best practices, Cloud, AI/ML
+ Proficient in multiple programming languages and technologies.
+ Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
**Preferred Qualification:**
+ Experience in the financial services industry.
+ Knowledge of emerging technologies such as GenAI, ML, blockchain, and cloud-native architectures.
+ Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
