Staff Engineer - Gas Turbine Engine Inclement Weather Engineer
Job Description SummaryThe job requires strong background in inclement weather operation as we move into the next generation of gas turbine engine architectures. This job requires cutting edge thinking, problem solving, analysis skills and cross functional integration skills to ensure an optimized engine design is defined to ensure all regulatory and customer requirements are met.
Identification and quantification of ingestion system requirements (hail, rain, ice crystals, and natural icing) leading to the definition of alternate system design concepts, trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification testing that the design is properly integrated and executed.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

Drives system level architecture and design to deliver on regulatory requirements.Defines and conducts testing of equipment and/or entire systems, identifying the best testing strategy and measurement system.Drives and participates in the research, design, development, and enhancement of technologies in the areas of inclement weather mitigation and system optimization.Can include delivery of customer solutions that properly balance cost and benefit (including architecture, key design trade-offs, flow-down of requirements and flow-up of capability).Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice/quality resource.Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area.Contributes towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.Supports Investigations for in-service events.Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Effective communication skills required to influence others on topics within field.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering from accredited university.At least 8 years of experience in analysis and testing related to aerodynamics and/or inclement weather.

Desired Characteristics

Previous experience engaging with regulators a plus.Strong interest in compressible flow modeling and thermodynamics.Strong communication and problem solving skills.Strong project management skills.Willingness to learn and work in a collaborative team environment.Graduate degree in Aerospace or Mechanical engineering.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
