Job Summary (Purpose and Function):

The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Miami School of Medicine seeks a Clinical Staff Fellow. Main responsibilities include extensive direct patient care, night and weekend on-call, and staffing the residents in the clinics and operating room. The Staff Fellow will assist in teaching and training residents in an Ophthalmic Training Program. Must excel in teaching and be willing to assume appropriate administrative responsibilities.  Candidate must have an M.D. degree and accredited residency-training program in ophthalmology in the U.S. Candidates should be board certified or board eligible and hold a valid and unrestricted State of Florida Medical License or Medical Faculty Certificate.   

 

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS     

Thoroughly participates and engages in educational and scholarly activities associated with the training program, including passing of examinations, actively participating in seminars and other scholarly activities, attending required meetings, etc.

Performs consultation, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients.

Provides safe, effective, and compassionate patient care under supervision.

Demonstrates own knowledge base and uses resources for clinical problem-solving, but also knows when to make proper use of the available supervisory and support systems.

Analyzes own practice for needed improvement and seeks advice and input when necessary. 

Finds and uses evidence from scientific studies and clinical guidelines.

Uses systematic approaches to improve patient care and reduce errors.

Provides the highest standard of patient care and completes the associated medical record documentation in a timely fashion.

Contributes to the working environment of the department by maintaining a professional atmosphere.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Staff Physician Fellows on visas must also adhere to the conditions detailed by the U.S. Department of State.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                         

Education:

M.D. or D.O. degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

State of Florida Medical Licensure   

DEA Certification 

Successful completion of an ACGME accredited residency program 

Experience:

Completion of residency or prior qualifying training

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.Commitment to the University’s core values.Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
