Job Description

Workplace Classification:

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Warren Tech Center three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.

The Role:

The Hardware Design Architect mission is to ensure our products are designed to target the growing needs of our customers while ensuring robust, well-designed hardware which meets GM specifications and testing requirements from early hardware through the production design. In this role you will be responsible for leading product development and integration activities.

Responsibilities include leading the Hardware Design organization utilizing engineering tools and processes to successfully develop components and systems for vehicle programs. You'll effectively achieve program milestones by thorough and leading-edge design practices and technical leadership.  You will coach and lead suppliers to timely execution of program work with excellence

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

Lead NA Hardware Design organization composed of multiple Staff level HW design leads in Next Generation Architecture, several Staff level Tech Specialists, and a growing team of HW design engineers in Warren, MI and Mountain View, CA. Define and execute a Scalable Systems Infrastructure and Architecture across Next Generation Platforms.  Define the hardware and system architecture for the Next generation ADAS Perception architecture.Define the hardware and vehicle architecture for ADAS module existing module design changes.Grow technical capabilities of the Hardware Design organization to include both leading edge and developing technology trends in Automotive Infotainment, Autonomous, Zone/Mode Controllers, and Functional Safety. Build and leverage a cross organizational network, used to form architectural recommendations/decisions.  Network to include Product Design teams, Release teams, SME’s, SW/SW architecture, Sensor, ADAS, Compute, and other stakeholder teams.Scale organization through internal and external placement to lead multiple/parallel design efforts of highly integrated systems requiring cross-functional domain expertise (electrical/mechanical/thermal/system). Standardize video routing for surround cameras across all ADAS packages for current architecture designs to robustness for FMVSS111 implementation.Communize the sensor architecture (Cameras and Radars) between Automated Driving L2, L3 and L4.Establish leadership within GM design, analysis, and simulation tools capabilities towards independence in design activities.  Ownership transfer from the Contract Manufacturer to the in-house Hardware design team requires a top functioning team of collaborate/highly technical engineers and a leader to mentor and coach the team through each design phase.Optimize Compute Hardware Architecture, to reduce dimensions, mass and optimize for ADAS L2, L3 and L4 use cases.

What You'll Need (Required Qualifications):

Bachelors degree (or higher) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or similar discipline.Understanding of automotive mechanical systems, electrical and electronic components, mechatronics, distributed control systems, serial data, and software architectural concepts.10+ Years in Automotive Hardware design experience with 5+ product launches from initial development to production launch.Extensive Tier 1 experience to understand the scope and complexity of the organization GM will leverage to lead its technical designs.

People Skills:

Established leadership skills, respected, and recognized by team members who feel empowered to lead their programs, yet confident they can ask for guidance in difficult times. “Lead by example” mindset is critical for this candidate to grow this organization.Demonstrated leader skills and comfortable leading Engineers without having direct authority. Strong interpersonal skills involving ability to work effectively cross-functionally and cross-culturally. Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
