**Description** The Staff Instrument & Controls (I&C) Designer will perform various phases in the design of plant instrument and control systems for a diverse portfolio of project types and clients. This position will work collaboratively utilizing design systems for the production of complex instrumentation & control systems design deliverables.
+ Perform I&C design activities during detailed design and construction phases of the project. Follow all company, client and project design and drafting standards.
+ Design each I&C phase utilizing various software such as Smart Plant Instrumentation, AutoCAD, MicroStation and Excel to develop the design deliverables. The deliverables may include panel or building layouts, cable schedule, instrument index, instrument location plans, installation details, loop drawings, wiring drawings and termination diagrams.
+ Perform set up of I&C CAD configuration and procedures according to project requirements at the beginning of a project for the I&C design team.
+ Prepare I&C drawings from rough sketches or from general engineering and design information (verbal instructions and notes) using CAD software programs.
+ Perform drawing production work including problem analysis, design layout and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
+ Execute a variety of assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components and refining rough sketches.
+ Prepare initial rough designs or sketches and redlines or mark-ups on ongoing projects.
+ Analyze reports, drawings, and tests, to plan and design projects.
+ Apply design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
+ Complete and review design drawings within scope, budget and schedule. Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.
+ Adhere to schedules, budgets and project criteria into I&C design and layouts.
+ Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.
+ Performs other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**
+ Bachelor Degree in drafting technology or related field and 7 years related experience Required or
+ Associate Degree and 8 years related experience Required or
+ 9 years progressive detailing and design experience. Required
+ Related instrument and controls detailing, and design experience preferred.
+ Advanced understanding of design software such as: AutoCAD, 2D, 3D, MicroStation, SmartPlant and Excel to develop the design deliverables.
+ Advanced knowledge in design, calculations and design systems.
+ Advanced knowledge in the theory and practices of structural discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.
+ Ability to work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers and Designers) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.
+ Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
+ Must be willing and eligible to obtain or currently hold a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
