Job Summary

General Summary and Overview: Ambulatory care registered nurse within busy Brain Tumor subspecialty program within the Pediatric Hematology Oncology program. Provides clinic flow and care coordination for the multidisciplinary Pediatric Brain Tumor Program including the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Conference, Pediatric Brain Tumor Clinic and Long-term follow-up of brain tumor patients. In addition, helps with patient care, phone triage, and in basket messaging. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: . Description of Principle Responsibilities Work as liaison between multidisciplinary team of oncologists, radiation oncologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists, neuropathologists, neurologist, neuropsychologists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, and nurses. Collaborate with new staff members of multidisciplinary team to orient, educate, communicate roles and responsibilities within the Brain Tumor program. Educational, emotional, clinical support and education of patient and family members. Participates/contributes to weekly team meetings. Collaborates regularly with inpatient units to ensure continuity of care. Coordinates and supports patients and families transition to adult and Long-term care program. Participates in and contributes to performance improvement activities. Provides input to the practice leadership regarding practice needs. Professional Development: Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current nursing education practice. Collaborates with practice leadership to identify developmental level of practice and appropriate learning experiences to enhance development. Adheres to Department of Nursing requirements for training as specified in the MGB Nursing Practice Manual. Contributes to relevant committees, professional meetings, continuing educational and / or formal academic programs. Participates in local, regional, and national Brain Tumor conferences. Participates and contributes to research, project, publications, and initiates. SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: BLS certification required. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively to families, interdisciplinary care team and collaborating referring programs and providers. Organized and committed to patient education. 5-7 years of registered nursing experience, preferred. PALS certification preferred. Chemotherapy certification preferred.


 

Qualifications

Qualifications - External LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS (if applicable): Current licensure as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required. EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor’s nursing degree EXPERIENCE: Must have a minimum of 3-5 years of oncology nursing experience required pediatric oncology and neuro-oncology experience preferred. WORKING CONDITIONS: Outpatient clinic setting. Occasional after-hours functions outside of defined working hours.
