Staff Nurse - Physician Practice
I. SUMMARY OF POSITION PURPOSE Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient needs utilizing the nursing process. Actively participates in providing patient care as defined by multidisciplinary plan of care. Provides direct and indirect nursing care to patients with diverse cultural backgrounds as well as varying ages pertinent to their assigned areas. The Staff Nurse manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members. The Staff Nurse establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. II. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES + Utilizes all components of the nursing process to provide patient care and serves as the coordinator for delivery of care as defined by the multidisciplinary plan of care. + Evaluates and documents patient response to plan of care. + Takes appropriate action regarding untoward response to interventions or changes in condition. + Evaluates and documents patient response to medication administration and treatment plans. + Utilizes effective communication techniques at all times including verbal, non-verbal, and documentation of patient assessment/outcomes. + Facilitates a patient centered experience by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends and families. + Recognizes patient/family educational needs and utilizes appropriate education strategies/techniques to fulfill this need. + Promotes a culture of safety by utilizing appropriate safety equipment and seeks out opportunities to teach others about the importance of the utilization of safety equipment. III. EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS + Licensed as Registered Nurse in South Carolina. + 0-1 year experience for entry level staff nurse positions + Additional training and/or certification may be required to meet standards of care within specific departments. + Critical thinking skill and the ability to prioritize care delivery based on individual patient need and complexity of patient workload and assessment findings. + Continues to learn and grow professionally through accepting assignments with differing patient load and complexity, clinical development programs, and involvement in professional organization.
