This job conducts adult and pediatric cardiopulmonary bypass, provides ventricular assist support, provides Intra Aortic Balloon Pump support, and conducts ExtraCorporeal Membrane Oxygenation. May also be required to perform auto transfusion, physiological monitoring, hemofiltration including acute dialysis, and operate various blood analyzers.

We support a wide range of services and have a very comprehensive scope of practice, including cardiopulmonary bypass procedures, ECMO, LVAD insertion and monitoring, including Heartmate 2 and 3, TandemHeart, and Impella, intra-aortic balloon pumps, HIPEC, and thoracic transplants.
Additionally, we are the only LVAD and thoracic transplant center in the state.

Education
Required – Completion of a formal training program in Extracorporeal Technology
Work Experience
Required – None.
Preferred – 2 yrs experience
Will consider strong new graduates
Certifications
Required – Certified, or eligible for certification, by The American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
Current license as a Perfusionist by the Louisiana State Board of Medical OR ability to obtain a state license .
Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally. Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard. Strong interpersonal skills.Capable of working as a team member in order to deliver a high level of patient care by exercising sound clinical judgment with a cooperative attitude.
Works calmly in high-pressure situations.
Knowledgeable and proficient in the use of a wide variety of life support devices.
Ability to work flexible schedule, with on call rotation such as nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, as well as on call with responding to call backs within 45 minutes of request.
Job Duties
Conducts Cardiopulmonary Bypass and other mechanical circulatory support procedures. Follows departmental compliance standards. Maintains and develops technical and clinical skills. Adapts to changes in technology and working environment in a positive and constructive manner. Assists with the day-to-day operation of the department – training new employees, working on projects, educating perfusion students, etc. Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
