About the role:

As a Staff Platform Engineer on the FinOps team, you will leverage your expertise of platform design to contribute to the technical architecture and implementation of our FinOps platform. This includes designing and building robust reporting capabilities, implementing efficient data ETL pipelines, and building tools and automation to support FinOps goals. You will work closely with internal engineering teams to identify and address cost optimization opportunities, developing and implementing solutions to remediate inefficiencies in SailPoint’s cloud infrastructure. You will also collaborate with the DevOps organization to build and automate systems for cost tracking, analysis, and optimization, ultimately driving a more data-driven approach to cloud spend management.

About the team:

This role will be part of the FinOps team inside of our Developer Platform organization, which provides the wide field of DevOps services for SailPoint’s Engineering organization. Our goal as a team is to provide FinOps functions and thought-leadership throughout the organization, and act as enablers and partners for our fellow teams.

SMART job expectations:

30 days:

Goal: Become familiar with the team, infrastructure, and FinOps practices.

Activities:

Understand the current FinOps framework (cost tracking, reporting, optimization).

Set up development environment and access to necessary tools.

Begin contributing to documentation and knowledge sharing.

Assist in common team tasks like anomaly investigation and dashboard creation.

90 days:

Goal: Start actively contributing to platform engineering tasks and FinOps initiatives.

Activities:

Begin identifying and contributing to improvements in the overall FinOps platform.

Begin participating in discussions with engineering teams on FinOps needs and cost-effective solutions.

Develop basic FinOps dashboards and reports.

6 months:

Goal: Take ownership of key platform components and drive FinOps improvements.

Activities:

Start contributing to the long-term platform roadmap on items such as Tagging Strategy and Governance, Shared Cost Allocation and generally operationalizing optimization opportunities.

Identify and implement improvements to FinOps processes (e.g., cost allocation, analysis).

Develop and deliver training or presentations on FinOps best practices.

Proactively identify and address potential infrastructure bottlenecks or cost inefficiencies.

1 year:

Goal: Demonstrate strategic impact on the platform and FinOps program.

Activities:

Provide knowledge leadership and tools: Act as the go-to expert for stakeholders in Engineering and Product by providing tools to develop and measure cost related insights, metrics, and KPIs to help them better understand their products and how to build them more efficiently.

Contribute to the FinOps platform architecture and strategy.

Craft detailed product level visibility that will help drive better business decisions and cost accountability.

Mentor and guide junior engineers, contributing to their professional development.

Evaluate and recommend new technologies to improve the platform.

Requirements:

7+ years of professional experience in DevOps or Information Technology operations

2+ years of experience with Cloud provider technology services is preferred

Demonstrated experience with cost optimization

You are curious and data-driven – you are a specialist in understanding systems, you enjoy getting into the details and can identify actionable steps

Experience with capacity planning and rightsizing, tagging and storage lifecycle policies, and automation

Analytical skills to collect, coordinate and present sophisticated data to a variety of audiences

Programming experience to build and maintain necessary applications for FinOps internal use and able to integrate into the general DevOps environment

Bonus:

Working knowledge of the FinOps Framework, domains and capabilities

Knowledge of billing constructs spanning multiple cloud providers and PaaS offerings (AWS, Azure, GCP, Snowflake, etc.)

Experience delivering BI Dashboards using common toolsets (ie, Grafana, QuickSight, PowerBI, Tableau, Lookr, etc.)

Experience working with complex datasets and data enrichment (SQL, ETL, etc.)

Experience with event-driven automated solution delivery (CloudWatch, EventBridge, Lambda, S3, etc.)

Benefits and Compensation listed vary based on the location of your employment and the nature of your employment with SailPoint.

As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the SailPoint Corporate Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission, along with potential eligibility for equity participation. SailPoint maintains broad salary ranges for its roles to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect SailPoint’s differing products, industries, and lines of business. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity. We estimate the base salary, for US-based employees, will be in this range from (min-mid-max, USD):

$124,600 - $178,000 - $231,400

Base salaries for employees based in other locations are competitive for the employee’s home location.
