Northrop Grumman needs Radiation Effects & Survivability (RES) engineers to team up and help lead the RES design, development, and analysis of complex electronic products for space systems.

At Northrop Grumman Space Systems RES engineering is the impact of the radiation environment upon the operational capability of components, assemblies, equipment, subsystems, systems, and other space platforms.  RES engineers perform radiation effects analysis, shielding analysis, survivability analysis, radiation analysis reporting, simulation of electronic components relative to space radiation effects; electronic protection; hazards of radiation to electronics, materials, and personnel.

Responsibilities:

Radiation Analysis for satellite electronic systemsPresent at design reviews to internal and external customers regarding Radiation issuesTesting radiation capability of electronic parts & components (e.g. low & prompt dose rates exposure, gamma irradiation, energetic electrons & protons, neutrons, and heavy ions bombardment)Radiation predictions using SPENVIS, CREME96, OMERE, FastRad, Shieldose2, and other radiation analysis toolsRadiation effects on materials and degradationInterface with multiple disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, EMI/EMC/ESD, contamination, procurement, subcontractors, manufacturing, and testingPrepare and present technical reports for internal and external customersDetermine and/or derive radiation requirements and compliance in program meetings and design reviews (PDR, CDR, etc.)Analyze Single Event Effects and calculate rates for Burnouts, Latchups, Ruptures, Upsets and Transients in electronic circuitsPropose and validate circuit design mitigations to reduce or eliminate risk of Single Event Effects failureCalculate Radiation Design Margins (RDM) analysisDisplacement Damage Dose impact on optoelectronicsDeep Charging (Internal Electron Flux) applied to spacecraft component boxes and external harnessesSpacecraft radiation modeling & radiation shielding evaluation

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Physics or closely related technical discipline with 14 years of experience.Extensive Radiation Effects & Survivability experienceProficient with Excel, Word, Powerpoint, and Teams (MS 365)Must have US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Physics or closely related technical discipline is preferred.Knowledge of physics associated with radiation effects in semiconductor devicesExperience with radiation models & tools like AE8/AP8, IRENE, CRÈME96, OMERE, SPENVIS, etc.Experience reviewing technical work products of peers.Experience contributing to development and mentoring of junior engineers.Leadership in process improvement or knowledge transfer (i.e. publication) activities.Experience with defense and aerospace industry practices, and programmatic skills supporting BOE, RFP, ROM, CAM, WBS, Risk assessments.CAD modeling experience with Creo ParametricCurrent or Active Top Secret Clearance with existing SCI eligibility

Salary Range: $142,500.00 - $247,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
