POSITION SUMMARY:
Natera is looking for an inquisitive and creative Staff Scientist to be a key member of our Molecular Biology Research Team. As a successful candidate, you will work on initiating, directing and executing pre-product scientific research to expand Natera's state-of-the-art product portfolio. Candidates with a proven track record developing NGS assays will be considered, with a preference for oncology experience.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Independently lead projects to create and develop novel nucleic acid based diagnostic tests; including planning, feasibility testing, protocol development, and optimization Contribute to the overall success of projects. Responsible for executing projects to associated timelines and deliverables Ability to work cross functionally with other groups such as bioinformatics, development, product, and project management teams Mentor, direct and assist junior scientific staff setting an example for good scientific practices. Write experimental reports, summaries and protocols Communicates progress directly with colleagues and senior management Assist with strategy, risk management, documentation, and improvement of processes, as applicable.QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. in molecular biology or closely related field Minimum of 8 years of industry experience or 2 years of post-doctoral research + 6 years of industry experienceKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Must have hands-on experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and basic molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA manipulation, multiplex PCR, hybrid capture, digital PCR Track record of originating, developing and productizing novel nucleic acid techniques and tests. Analyze and interpret data in collaboration with bioinformatics scientists and summarize results in presentations and reports. Demonstrated success in applying independent scientific judgment in experimental design and analysis Must have excellent communication, organizational, record-keeping, planning, and time management skills Proven success in managing collaborative and individual projects, previous experience managing research scientists a plus Maintain up to date knowledge in oncology and specific tumor types. Adept with data analysis and statistical testing using Excel, JMP, R or other data analysis environments Bioinformatics capabilities, programming (e.g. python), and database experience (SQL) are a plus Skilled at writing clear plans, reports and SOPs The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location.
