Staff Scientist
Braun Intertec is seeking a Staff Scientist to join our Hibbing, MN office. The preferred candidate will have 0-3 years of professional work experience and hold at least a bachelor’s degree in geoscience, environmental science, civil engineering, or related field. The successful candidate will contribute to the firm’s success by:Assisting with report writing and data tabulation including Geotechnical Evaluations, Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments.Logging soils and rock in the field and laboratory.Conducting Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.Conduct field work such as staking and surveying of field exploration locations, collecting groundwater, soil, aggregate, concrete, masonry, asphalt, and air samples, along with other field activities.Oversight of subcontractors in the field including drillers and remediation contractors.Travel to local and regional project sites (up to 30% travel, based on project needs).Perform testing on soils and concrete in the laboratory and field.Work with project managers and senior technicians or staff to ensure specifications are followed.Observe construction in progress and reports to project engineer.

Great work ethic; taking ownership of tasks and seeing them through to completion.Strong written and verbal communication skills – a willing and open communicator.Detail-oriented, motivated, analytical thinker and problem solver.Curiosity to learn about a wide variety of environmental and civil engineering consulting topics.Works well on a team and independently with minimal supervision.Accepts mentoring from senior staff.Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving history.Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis and up to 75 lbs. periodicallyDriven, analytical thinker, enjoys technical report writing, and is detail oriented.Enjoys being outside while conducting field workGood mechanical skills and be able to use various field equipment.Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (primarily Excel and Word).

Qualifications:

BS degree or higher in Geology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, civil engineering or science-related field.Experience preparing reports, data tables, and figures.Good basic mechanical skills to use and troubleshoot field equipment.

The successful candidate will be encouraged to expand their skills and certifications through company provided training and mentoring.
