**12680BR** **Title:** Staff Scientist **Job Description:** Applies advanced knowledge of business and technical principles in evaluating the chemical and physical properties of various organic and inorganic substances in order to investigate their applications to the medical device industry. Large complexity and sized project involvement is the norm. Job duties: 1. Primary work location is in the R&D chemistry laboratory. Secondary work location is in an office environment. 2. Handles chemicals safely in accordance with approved processes and procedures. 3. Performs laboratory tasks under self-direction. Minimal supervision. 4. Develops and performs chemical reactions, including polymerization, coupling, derivatization, and digestion. 5. Develops and performs chemical processes, including dissolution, extraction, precipitation, and filtration. 6. Able to utilize general laboratory equipment independently. 7. Develops, validates, and performs analytical testing in high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), inductively coupled plasma – mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). 8. Develops and performs simulated use, in vitro testing to determine performance of current, competitive, and proposed products. 9. Performs analysis of lab and analytical results to summarize, report, and make conclusions. 10. Writes internal documentation, including test methods, test protocols, test reports, validation protocols, validation reports, and procedures. 11. Disposes of waste chemicals and materials following approved safety processes and procedures. 12. Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. 2. A minimum of eight (8) years’ experience. 3. PhD a plus 4. Medical device industry experience preferred 5. Pharmaceutical industry experience a plus 6. Key Specialist in specific areas of discipline (Advanced Career Level) **Desired Qualifications** 1. Works with minimal, limited direction. 2. Demonstrated ability to achieve project goals within the timeline and budget. 3. Good written and oral communication skills. 4. Computer skills including Excel and Word. 5.
