About the team + role

The Observability Team is responsible for all things observability and monitoring at Robinhood, encompassing metrics, logging, tracing, error handling, and alerting. The team builds and maintains a platform that allows other development teams to seamlessly integrate observability into their services, ensuring issues are detected and resolved with minimal friction!

Our platform leverages external solutions such as: Metrics: Chronosphere (via Prometheus and Grafana) Logging: Humio Tracing: Honeycomb Error Handling: Sentry Paging: PagerDuty

Robinhood is looking for an experienced Staff Software Developer to act as the Team Lead of the Observability Team. This team plays a critical role in enabling our engineering teams to deliver reliable and performant software by providing a robust observability platform. As a leader of this team, you will drive the strategy, execution, and vision for observability at Robinhood, ensuring our tools and systems are world-class, scalable, and cost-efficient.

What you’ll do Design and Build: Scaleable and reliable observability platforms at Robinhood. Strategize and Drive: Define the long-term vision for observability at Robinhood and set the roadmap to achieve it. Technical Leadership: Provide deep technical expertise in observability, ensuring the team builds scalable, reliable, and efficient systems and acting as the Team Lead. Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to gather feedback, understand their needs, and refine the platform. Mentorship: Elevate the team by mentoring developers, holding a high bar for quality, and fostering a culture of excellence. Efficiency and Cost Management: Drive initiatives to reduce time to detect and resolve issues while optimizing costs for logging, metrics, and tracing. Build Partnerships: Establish strong relationships with other engineering leaders and teams, ensuring smooth collaboration and shared success. What you bring Expertise in Observability: Deep experience with observability tools and platforms such as Datadog, Splunk, Prometheus, Honeycomb, Chronosphere, or similar. Technical Acumen: Strong coding skills in Python, Go, and experience with Kubernetes and cloud-based architectures. Leadership Experience: Proven track record as a technical lead, driving strategy, and mentoring high-performing engineering teams. Operational Excellence: Familiarity with managing the balance between self-hosted and vendor-managed solutions, optimizing for performance and cost.

Base pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected salary range for this role is based on the location where the work will be performed. This role is also eligible to participate in a Robinhood bonus plan and Robinhood’s equity plan.

Toronto, ON$170,000—$200,000 CAD
