Staff Software Engineer – Deployment & Release

GEICO is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to join our Continuous Delivery team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Kubernetes, Linux, Flux, GitOps, and GitHub, with a passion for building robust, scalable platforms as a service. This role will play a crucial part in driving our continuous delivery initiatives, ensuring our software delivery pipelines are efficient, secure, and reliable.

Position Responsibilities

· Design, develop, and maintain a continuous delivery platform to enable fast, secure and reliable software releases.

· Implement and manage Kubernetes-based deployment strategies using GitOps methodologies.

· Leverage ArgoCD to automate application deployment and lifecycle management in Kubernetes clusters.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of new applications and services into the continuous delivery pipeline.

· Optimize and automate CI/CD processes to improve deployment frequency, reduce lead time for changes, and increase reliability.

· Implement and enforce security best practices throughout the continuous delivery process.

· Develop and maintain platform services that support development and deployment workflows.

· Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

· Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to ensure our continuous delivery processes remain cutting-edge.

Qualifications

· Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

· Extensive experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration.

· Strong proficiency in Linux system administration and shell scripting.

· Experience with networking concepts and protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, etc.

· Hands-on experience with Flux, ArgoCD and GitOps practices.

· Proficient with GitHub and managing Git-based workflows.

· Strong understanding of CI/CD concepts and tools (e.g., Github Actions, CircleCI, ArgoCD).

· (highly desirable) Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Ansible.

· (highly desirable) Experience in building Platforms as a Service (PaaS).

· (highly desirable) Experience with monitoring and logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).

Education

· Bachelor's degree or master's degree in information technology or related field, or equivalent experience


 

Annual Salary

$105,000.00 - $230,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
