Staff Software Engineer

Chewy is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Marketing Technology team in Boston, MA or Plantation, FL. Marketing Technology plays a critical role in supporting this mission, delivering cutting-edge AI/ML-powered automated services and web applications to promote ad, campaign, and conversion efficiency. In this role, the ideal candidate will work across multiple teams, influencing decisions and owning several services or products, while developing and executing highly complex and ambiguous implementations. This technical leader will guide peers and /or small teams of engineers on the use of architecture, coding patterns, languages, and frameworks in accordance with industry trends. What You’ll Do:

Autonomously execute system design, UI/UX design, debugging, development, and release of full-stack application modules to promote automation and efficiency in critical marketing areasActively lead team members and participate in the definition, design, development, testing and implementation of software functionalityDefine code quality requirements, including but not limited to use of optimal data structures, algorithms, and design patterns, and gates for their team, provides constructive feedback and promotes collaborative solutions during review processMentor team members to understand and adhere to related best practicesLead team on mitigation, resolution, and investigation and continuous improvement for complex production problems that span across services, including participation in on-call rotations and contributions to operational excellenceServe as SME (and may serve as an architect or top-level SME) on a defined domain, program, or functional areaRepresent the team and provide project status to stakeholders at cross-functional forumsLead team members and advise stakeholders on improvements and optimizations to features, practices, processes, and operationsInfluence software engineering team hiring practices and hiring decisions

What You’ll Need:

Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or similar; or equivalent experienceMinimum 10+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on front-end, including the ability to perform independent analysis and owning components and servicesExperience creating design patterns and technology spanning ecosystems and influencing across multiple teamsDeep knowledge of major front-end development frameworks like Angular, React, VueUnderstanding of major backend frameworks in languages including Python, Java, Go (e.g., Django, Spring Boot, Gin)Experience designing services and architecture in adherence to best practices and requirementsDemonstrated ability to work and effectively communicate with internal clients leveraging custom-built applicationsAbility to balance multiple priorities at a given timeMust be team oriented and have a customer first mindsetStrong analytical abilitiesPosition may require travel 10% or less

Bonus (if applicable):

3+ years acting in a technical lead capacityExperience leading technical teams in the development and delivery of projectsExperience deploying AI/ML services as part of web applications a major plusExperience working in e-commerce
