Staff Software Engineer (PointCentral)

POSITION OVERVIEW

Do you love tinkering with devices? Have you automated your own home? Do you love to mentor and collaborate with other engineers?
If the above holds true for you, then we would love to talk to you! PointCentral is looking for a versatile Staff Software Engineer to join our team. At PointCentral, we are creating a world where property managers can spend their time focusing on the people that make their communities thrive rather than routine administrative, operational, and maintenance tasks. At the same time, we are providing renters and guests access to secure, convenient, and resource-conserving smart home solutions. While we have a solid client base, with some of the world’s biggest customers using our solutions, we’re just getting started!

WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR POINTCENTRAL?

As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll work collaboratively with our Product Management and Business teams to drive technical discovery, design, and implementation of large-scale applications, products, and platforms. You'll work cross-functionally to identify short-term and long-term solutions and timelines, review and approve proposed solutions, and provide pertinent documentation, direction, and examples to your team.
Very few small companies innovate and develop across such a broad range of technologies as PointCentral. This position is ideal for the candidate who seeks a small, friendly company culture where one can work closely with smart and highly productive people. Getting to work with cutting edge software and hardware to develop outstanding consumer products is the icing on the cake.

DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES

•    Mentor groups of junior, senior, and lead engineers
•    Help define engineering processes and workflows
•    Help build and cultivate innovation by driving cross-collaboration and execution of projects across multiple teams
•    Develop full stack software for a wide variety of platforms and technologies
•    Lead design of major software components, systems, and features
•    Engage in the research, evaluation, and application of new technologies and methodologies to solve challenging problems and optimize engineering solutions
•    Work closely with product owners and business stakeholders to execute strategies and roadmaps
•    Work hard and be flexible: we have quick development cycles, evolving requirements, and lots of cross-team collaboration
•    Become an expert on system architecture, functionality, and data flows as well as operations processes and tools
•    Provide support as subject matter expert for the technical and product domains
•    Exercise good judgment. Know when to work quickly and when to build a robust solution. Your work will be used by multiple business units so you will need to consider many use cases when developing.
•    Bring your ideas! We want our engineers to collaborate on product development, not blindly build to a spec.

WHAT DO YOU NEED?

•    Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related field or equivalent work experience
•    12+ years of professional software development experience
•    Experience leading and/or mentoring other engineers with a proven track record of developing people and solutions that are reusable by other engineers
•    Proven expertise in object-oriented programming skills; C# and .NET experience a plus
•    Significant database design and development experience
•    Superior analytical skills with a good problem-solving attitude
•    Ability to perform in a team environment
•    Independent thinker and problem solver
•    Experience working with hardware and device development is a major plus
•    Experience creating software systems that handle enterprise level scale
•    Other duties as assigned
