**The Opportunity**
Our Diagnostics business currently has an opportunity for a **Staff Systems Engineer** in our Santa Clara, CA location. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott’s diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people.
As the **Staff Systems Engineer** , you’ll be responsible for being our internal product and technology expert who can lead a cross functional team on the development of on-market products. Finds solutions to complex product development problems. Develops system level design documentation and requirements specification, working with marketing, engineering, and other stakeholders. Participates in specialized functions such as Develops and follows specialized procedures in executing experiments, evaluation, and documentation of results. Develops working relationships with cross functional groups.
**What You’ll Work On**
+ Perform product definition, system architecture, requirements writing, requirements management, requirements analysis, risk analysis, hazard analysis, product test and evaluation, system V & V, an/or design control documentation.
+ Optimizes design processes.
+ Design and conduct system level characterization/verification of complex systems; collect, organize, analyze, and document test results.
+ Integrate analytical and performance related elements with software, hardware, and electronics system components.
+ Communicate effectively and participate on cross functional development teams with good negotiating skills to direct multi-disciplinary teams toward solutions.
+ Collaborate across functional areas- Interprets, presents, and delivers information with product team members, scientists, engineers, and other systems development personnel across sites.
+ Ensures quality through design Techniques and Design Alternatives- Leads and Participates in Engineering Design Reviews utilizing Engineering Procedures and Engineering Tools, makes recommendation, and identifies design alternatives.
+ Obtains customer feedback for new and/or Improve Products- Obtains and provides inputs from internal sources and other internal or external customers and integrates inputs into product to achieve engineering goals.
+ Selects, builds, and maintain Third Party Manufacturer (TPM) product and partner relationship - For Third Party Manufacturer products, leads the assessment of the proposed design and verification of subsystem or system to meet corresponding requirements.
+ Responsible for utilizing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
+ Failure to properly define requirements, integrate all systems, verify/validate requirements could result in product introduction delays and quality issues.
+ Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and performing other duties as assigned by management.
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING**
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physical science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
+ Minimum 6 years of experience.
+ Product development experience in Engineering or Physical Science.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Master’s Degree preferred.
+ Experience working in manufacturing or with a Third-Part Manufacturer is a plus.
+ Experience in general engineering principals and laboratory skills.
+ Strong knowledge of defined development process that is consistent with ISO, FDA design control standards or requirements.
+ Experienced in one or more of the following: Electro-mechanical, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or mathematical., technologies as they pertain to the design, integration, evaluation, and commercialization of diagnostic systems.
+ demonstrated experience in leadership roles, with an emphasis on influencing and guiding teams without direction authority.
+ Proven ability to inspire collaboration, align stakeholders across different functions, and drive results in a cross functional environment.
+ Ability to work on many subjects concurrently.

The base pay for this position is $95,500.00 – $190,900.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
