Staff Technical Lead, Data Visualization Group

POS-26269

HubSpot is a leading CRM platform that helps businesses grow and succeed by providing tools that enable marketing, sales, and customer service teams to attract, engage, and delight customers. We are looking to hire a Staff Technical Lead to drive the development and scaling of our Data Visualization Group, part of the CRM product platform group.

This role is critical in building and enhancing one of the most vital backend systems at HubSpot, which supports many other teams at HubSpot working with CRM data. As a Staff TL on the Data Visualization Group, you will be hands-on, leading the technical direction while scaling our GraphQL cluster and deal flow pipelines. You'll work closely with product managers, engineers, and UX designers to build the most advanced middleware systems at HubSpot.

Staff Technical Leads are highly productive, impactful, and trusted engineers who leverage their skills and knowledge to work autonomously on the most complex projects and set technical direction. Very complex problems can include those that are very broad, very deep, or problems that require spanning across many teams.

The Data Visualization Group focuses on enhancing the infrastructure that enables CRM teams to seamlessly integrate backend services, ensuring efficient and scalable data flow.

What You’ll Do:

Hands-on Engineering: Architect, code, and perform code reviews, contributing to our microservices-based GraphQL infrastructure. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, UX, and frontend teams to build new features and ensure alignment across teams. Mentorship & Leadership: Mentor and lead a small team of engineers, with the goal of growing the team and nurturing the next generation of engineering leaders.

Responsibilities:

Lead the technical strategy and development of our GraphQL Middleware services. Work with product managers and UX designers to build new features for backend consumers and improve service observability and reliability. Develop strategies for scaling and improving the performance of our GraphQL infrastructure, integrating with micro services, and eventually moving towards RPC and code less integrations. Foster a high-performing team culture by mentoring engineers, providing technical guidance, and ensuring continuous improvement. Partner with multiple teams and stakeholders across the company, including Senior Product Managers, Staff Engineers, and Technical Leads from frontend and backend teams. Advocate for technical best practices, improve system reliability, and drive the GraphQL infrastructure roadmap forward.

Why HubSpot?

High Impact & Visibility: This role is part of a critical backend system used by multiple teams across HubSpot CRM. Opportunity to Build & Scale: You'll have the opportunity to build the most advanced middleware systems at HubSpot and advocate for future backend evolution. Career Growth: Lead a growing team and make your mark on the CRM product while representing backend teams in staff+ communities and cross-functional initiatives.

Preferred Experience:

Experience with backend systems at midsize to large companies, especially in high-traffic environments. Familiarity with cross-team collaboration and working in platform or infrastructure roles. Expertise with scaling and deploying micro services and event-driven architectures. Knowledge of GraphQL, GRPC, and system monitoring best practices is a plus.

If you're passionate about building scalable systems, mentoring engineers, and making a significant impact at a high-growth company, we'd love to hear from you!
