Job Concepts FUNCTION OF WORK: To perform specialized tasks relative to one or more State Fire Marshal program areas, typically through the direct supervision of lower level personnel. LEVEL OF WORK: Supervisor. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Usually direct from a State Fire Marshal Captain. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Usually direct over State Fire Marshal Deputies. LOCATION OF WORK: Department of Public Safety, Office of State Fire Marshal. JOB DISTINCTIONS: Differs from State Fire Marshal Senior Deputy by the presence of direct supervision of lower-level State Fire Marshal personnel or by the performance of specialized tasks as approved by SCS. Differs from State Fire Marshal Captain by the absence of district supervision or supervision over staff for a program area as approved by SCS. May serve as an assistant to a supervisor or manager by performing administrative functions. May serve as lead worker, trainer, or mentor over lower-level Deputies. May conduct the most complex inspections and investigations requiring special certifications. May serve as subject matter expert to District Attorneys, Attorney General, United States Attorney, and the insurance industry; provides testimony in court as needed. May assist in coordinating the revision of agency rules, regulations, and procedures to meet required changes; may provide training or conduct presentations on such changes. May perform grant management tasks and submit related reports. May assist in preparing legislation. Works on special projects as assigned. Identifies and coordinates fire service resources and manpower responding to emergencies in support of the state disaster plan. Evaluates and inspects emergency shelters for occupancy.
